Hi Ladies, I'm 22, never really had reasons to wear makeup on my face ever but now I'm getting to a point wear I'm self-concious of the freckles on my face and what very little blemishes I get. I dont know what tones I should be using, what good inexpensive brands to buy, what the hell concealer is... etc. I dont know what I should be applying on my face from first to last. All I've been using for the past 5 years is Jergens Moisterizing Glow and I'm becoming aware that my face is too shiny! I need help!!!!

Change your moisturizer to one thats oil free (such as Aveeno) and concealer is used to cover up acne, blemishes & scars. If you want to cover up your freckles, you will have to use a full coverage foundation (such as Make Up Forever HD foundation) but if you want drugstore brand, try Revlon Colorstay for oily skin. I think freckles are cute so as long as its not severe & overwhelming but if you only have a little bit on your cheeks you shouldn't try & cover it, just minimize it, use a natural looking foundation (Nars Sheer Matte foundation) to avoid a shiny face. Invest in a good setting powder, make sure you stop by Sephora & speak with a makeup artist who can help you pick out the products you need :-)

I have freckles to and I've tried make up forever HD and I luv it but it does not cover freckles.it takes a lot of a routine coverage to do that for myself lol but I usually show mine most of the time I use some kind of gorgeous by benefit, for a soft coverage.and like Mary said An oil free moisturizer is good.

Maybe you should start with tinted moisturiser or a bb cream, these are lighter than foundation! You should put concealer on blemishes and dark circles, I recommend collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer review on my blog;http://beautywizz24.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/collection-2000-lasting.html?m=1.
I put my bb cream on the concealer and to set it and make me look matte I use setting powder! Hope this helps, but don't put too mic on as you don't want to look caked in makeup also blend it, you don't want to end up with 'slag' lines!

Thank you, Aim S. That was also helpful and informative.

And I am looking for something extremely light on my face because I don't think I need to cover up much at all. I may have a little red spot here and there but I've never had acne and maybe a handful of pimples in my life. I just see pictures of everyones flawless face and I dont see freckles or anything. I dont have heavy freckles like most natural redheads do. Just a few on my cheeks and less than few on my forhead. I dont really want to look like I'm wearing makeup all over my face. Would anyone think a bronzer would help at all? I'd like my face to have more of a glow or sunkissed look without looking like an Oompa Loompa.

First of all let me say I LOVE FRECKLES!!! Freckles are so beautiful. Definitely get into makeup if you're curious, but consider finding ways to keep your freckles visible. They're so unique and beautiful. I wish I had them.

Now on to makeup! There is a great tutorial here for how to apply natural looking makeup: http://www.beautylish.com/v/rzsvju/billy-b-does-natural-tutorial?ref=modal

There are loads of tutorials under "video" that you can watch to learn how to do all kinds of things. A great brand that you can play with at Sephora is Too Faced. Their products are really easy to use and very wearable. The colors blend nicely and there are little instruction booklets in the palettes to show you how to apply the makeup. Starting a new makeup collection can be pricey, so you could start by combining some nicer shadows (Too Faced) with some drugstore items (eyeliner, mascara) to keep it affordable. You'll have to experiment with foundations, but asking someone at a makeup counter can be helpful (although a little intimidating). MAC is a classic go-to for foundation, but tons of other brands have great products as well.

After years of not wearing that much makeup, I've enjoyed becoming immersed in it. Watching tutorials definitely helps give you some guidance, so you know what you're looking for. I'm really excited for you! There's so much creatively that can be done with makeup. It's really fun to get into it!

Thank you, Bec S. I was recommended by a friend to get matched at MAC because it's free and a lot of help. I think I'll be saving up some money for BIG purchases. I'm really interested in a few Too Faced products. I've been using a Merele Norman eye primer and I truely feel for the price I payed it was so-so. I think all of you ladies have been very imformative and supportive. All I currently own is two 120 bhcosmetic palets for the moment so as far as shadows, I may not purchase any for a while....maybe ;) I might reconsider embracing my freckles afterall. I just thought it was best to always have that flawless "Barbie" face. Maybe I'm mistaken. I do watch a lot of tutorials but as far as anything on the face, it's not too informative for someone as clueless as me. I've only been using makeup on my eyes. Like I said previously, (not to boast on myself either) But I've never needed a reason for face makeup. I have never had acne and very little pimples. I too am excited for myself. I need to learn all these things because I'm reconsidering becoming a makeup artist. Thank you so much for all the info! :)

The good news is, there is no "perfect" face that you need to conform to. The perfect face is your face! Looking at your face, seeing what the features are, and working with those is the best artistic choice you can make. If you're working on a client, being able to do that for them is also so important.

I love Billy B because he makes such great artistic choices. Here is a tutorial he did that has a lot of colorful eye makeup, but he keeps the freckles! He mentions that toward the end. You can watch it just to see how he preps the face. It's entertaining too (he's really funny): http://www.beautylish.com/a/vcqvr/billy-b-colorful-mascara

Clear skin is a wonderful blessing. Fortunately, makeup isn't all always correcting for poor skin, it's about expression, play and trying on different characters, versions of yourself but with slightly different aspects than your day-to-day self. Since your skin is good, it's ok not to put a bunch of stuff on it! I also have clear skin, so I mostly use a skin palette by Graftobian to just even out my tone in certain areas. I don't need it all over, so I don't apply foundation like a mask to my whole face. Usually I just do a little bit of work below the eyes to bring that color into line with the rest of my face. Also, doing a bit around the base of the nose helps remove redness. In that tutorial I showed you, Billy just uses the tiniest bit of sheer foundation to give the makeup something to stick too, but he pretty much leaves her face alone after that and focuses on making the eyes really bold.

Honestly if you've never really worn makeup, the simplest way to start is just to make your look as simple as possible. Makeup is the art of looking like you are not wearing any. Concealer, blush, nude or pink lip colors, and mascara. These tools will be a foot in the door to wearing makeup. The best part about them is you can wear them anytime.

I do wear makeup. I have always worn mascara, eyeliner, shadows, & brow pencils. I have never worn makeup on my face though.

You could try a BB cream or tinted moisturizer if you're looking for something light. :) good luck!

i second that bb cream tinted moisturizer suggestion...just want to add one more thing...put some blush on....from what i can see from your profile pic you have the ideal face shape for blush, very defining cheekbones...any soft natural pinkish/rose shade would on your apple( there are lots of youtube videos on how to apply blushes, its pretty simple really) would look really natural yet very pretty, even if you dont want to wear bb cream or tinted moisturizer go with a regular moisturizer than a bit of blush you'd be good to go :)

That's more of what I am wanting. Do you know the texture of the bb cream tinted moisterizer? Like I said, something very light. And how does it do for sweating? I live in Louisiana with A LOT of humidity. But it's cooler now so I shouldnt have to worry about sweating now.

Personally what I would do is go into sephora and tell them your story and that you're looking to start out with a bb cream and see what they recommend for your skin type. Have them make you a sample and try it out for a few days and see how you like it! Good luck!
