The only time I have had trouble with acne was about 7 years ago when I was 25 I think where I kept getting this same breakout on my chin leaving me with scars even after bring prescribed with Differin. Now I'm 32 and its happening again! Does anyone know how I can prevent these from leaving scars again?? And do you know what may have caused this to come back??

Could very well be hormonal.

Well I'm far from an expert but I do know that no matter how tempting, even if there's a head on it DON't pop it, pick it or rub it off with a wash cloth when washing! That's the main thing to help prevent scarring! I wash my face every night (to get all the oils & makeup residue, pollution, stuff like that from the day off with (Neutragena Oil-Free Acne Wash) & I swear by it! I'm 40 & have breakouts in the same place your having it from hormones & actually the chin & around the mouth is a very common place that us women break out due to hormonal imbalances, peri menopause (before pre-menopause) our monthly cycle, stress, etc.. I was @ my wits end with it & remembered when I was a teen I used the Neutragena bar soap & it cleared my skin up (finally) Then I read in my Allure mag that the Neutragena Oil Free Acne Wash was one of the best washes out for black heads & acne. So I got some & it keeps my skin clear! Even during my cycle Ill only have like one small blemish. Its also been a miracle on black heads. I have none & I've got large pores!! Make sure after you wash with it that you apply your face lotion right away also! Too dry of skin will cause breakouts too! Hope this helped you<3

As far as treatment I agree with the last post. I know when I breakout sometime my insecurity causes me to touch my face more. If that is an issue try not to touch it. I don't what your job is but I'm a baker and work with oils and everytime it sometimes gets on my face I breakout on my chin.

That is in the area of hormonal breakouts, even when using topical meds you still need a skincare routine that fight bacteria and promotes cell turnover and one that protects your skin from uva and uvb rays and hydrates so cleanser containing salicylic acid a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment ,a exfoliater used twice a week a c serum which will work on clearing the hyperpigmentation if your not using the differin gel anymore try a retinol which helps with the acne and the dark spots a moisturizer and spf and try flaxseed pills or fishoil to help with the and inflammation

You should get on retin-a! It does amazing things. I'm on it right now. It helps with acne and helps get rid of scars, discoloration, uneven skin and wrinkles by accelerating your skins exfoliation process. It brings newer fresher skin to the surface faster. Don't get it twisted, this is a long road. It takes at least 3 months for your skin to get accustom to it. And it's going to make your breakouts worse before it gets better. It's because its actually working and gettin all the nasty junk in your pores out. Lots of flakes, peeling, dry, sensitive skin. But in the grand scheme of things, 3 months isn't that long compared to the rest of your life being happier than you are now. I'm just over 2 months into my journey with retin-a and I can already see smoother more even skin and clearer skin. I've never had this before ever. Some days will be fine, some days will suck, and some days will suck hard. But if you are like me, than you were already pretty low feeling. So why not take a chance. It takes uber patience... But I promise you'll be happy you did. I promise. Google it and do some research.

Don't be depressed, I know how you feel. It's so hard, especially when you don't know what the cause is.. It will bet better. Try the retin-a.

I agree with Whitney J. I had acne at the age of 31 and couldn't figure out why! Turns out it was hormonal. I was started on BCP , saw a dermatologist who started me on Retin -A and another topical ointment (benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin). And since acne is also caused by bacteria, I was also started on an antibiotic. I had horrible dark scars on my face. I understand how you feel. Just keep in mind the process does take time. My face was finally clear after 6 months of treatment and the acne scars were very minimal. A year later now, my face remains clear (occasional pimple when my cycle comes around) and I'm still on BCP and still using the Retin-A cream. And I use the clarisonic Mia, which I love!! Good luck chica.

Check your diet...I stopped eating peanut butter/peanut and peanut products and my exczema and acne went away...could be hormonal...also try drinking more water...

I also went back to basics with cleaning my face...no frill/scent cleansers and witch hazel...
