Hi to all Beautylish gals!
I have been trying to apply to Sephora for a while now and am in the Norther Va region. I first applied when I got my makeup certification but had no response. I applied after 4 more months and still there was no response. But every time I walk in the nearest 2 stores there are new employees..and I want to get a chance to learn more and grow more in makeup. Any advice on what to do? Thanks all...

Hey Leanna,
Thanks for your response. I feel the store managers do not want to respond to applications. The ones here are hand applications and we turn them into the stores. I did both stores Fairfax and Reston

Hi Laila,
Thanks for your advice. I appreciate that. I guess then its best for me to freelance and build my way into learning more on my own!!

ive been doing freelance for a few years now and i love it ,but right now its not a full time job for me although i want it to be.Until then i want to have a job that is full time in doing makeup. There arent really alot of places i know of that has that kind of work. My first option was sephora because it wasnt restricted to only one brand of makeup. But being as though they havent responded. I Agree with Laila 100% ,maybe they want someone who is "naieve" when it comes to makeup.

Leanna,
I actually love your work as you showed in your pics. Makeup is not my full time job either right now because of college. I also had interviewed with M.A.C but no luck and also Bobbi Brown too. I was wondering if I should interview with M.A.C again or not on that thought too. I am not sure of Bare Escentuals because they have a high turn around of employees as I heard of it.

Thank you so Much!! i was thinking of applying for M.A.C too but the Pro M.A.C store i would like to work at is kind of a hop skip and jump from where i live. There is a M.A.C makeup counter in the Macy's that is close to me but everytime i went there to pick up a few things the girls there seemed very snooty and snoby. And in my opinion i dont want to be apart of a group of people like that.My time will come. i know that! i just continue to keep faith.

Welcome Leanna
I have 2 M.A.C stores just 15 minutes each from me and both I noticed the girls are snobby and snooty as well. I also do not like to work in such an environment so I will just do freelancing now and let it take its flow. And good luck to you and I am sure you will do great in the future.

I have an interview with Sephora on Monday. With every job I make sure when I turn in my application, I ask for someone in charge of hiring or the manager on duty. That way they can get a first impression and I don't become a piece of paper. If a few days goes by and you don't get a call, call them, again asking for a hiring manager etc, then say you submitted an application X days ago and would like to schedule a meeting. This way they practically have to schedule an interview and they know you are truly interested in the company.

I'm having a horrible time even just APPLYING for a job at the one at jcpenney near me. I've been locked out of the application. It sucks! I'm going to keep trying though. I have a job at the moment but it's temporary and I was hoping to make a job at Sephora a more full time thing. Guess I'll see what happens

Hey Hun, I worked at the fair oaks Sephora, I can tell you that for a long time we were accepting applications and down about 3 managers so we had no time to hire anyone, we're cycling through the older applications right now. Now it's only holiday hires and I'd be persistent!! Good luck!! <3

They also have strict requirements and they read you from your application, if you don't meet the requirements they won't tell you they just won't call back.

I just called two locations today which were the two sephora locations inside the jcpennys. The first location i called the young lady who answered the phone was nice but i sensed a snobby personality. When i asked for the hiring manager she said she wasnt in , so i asked could i leave a msg and i told her that i wanted to check the status of my app. She replied saying something along the lines of if i had passed the initial app test then i would go into the hiring pool and then they would choose people from there. So i pretty much said ok and hung up thinking to myself well whatevet maybe its not meant to be. I kept thinking if i should or shouldnt call the second location . I was thinking all their going to tell me is the same thing but i thought what the heck let me just call. I called them and the girl was very nice i asked her the same thing and she took down my name and said she'd pass the message along to her manager. So hopefully something comes of it. If not then o well its not the end of the world. Ill just continue doing what ive been doing. Ill make it either way.

The Sephora around me Says never call because its more of an annoyance to the managers. I have a salon position now so I will work on my artistry in a salon and print environment :)

If you are an esthetician then I recommend getting a position in a salon with clients

Although i dont like to be an annoyance when calling , on the flip side i feel like if you dont show some type of persistence wether its by showing up or even calling then how would they know that you are truely interested just by whats on your resume and application. If they get annoyed by that than they must not appreciate determined and persistent people in terms of stopping at nothing to achieve what they want. But i can see if the person calls repeatedly the same day , hour after hour .than that would just be a nuisance because the person isnt allowing time for someone to possibly get in contact with them.

I work for Sephora and I'm not a naive about makeup. They want people who want to grow with the company and is great at providing customer service. I'm actually attending FIT and I'm in the Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing program and my years of working with Sephora , and product knowledge help me get into a program that only accepts 25 students.

And for the one that said you have to be stupid no sorry you have to me smart and be able to absorb information of several different brands.

Don't assume, people will always have their own opinions, i suggest you give the store manager a call & request the status on your application. There is nothing wrong with calling to follow up.
