During the springtime here in Hawai'i it's a cold climate, which I love, but when Fall comes around, the heat is unbearable for my hair! I wake up every morning with an oily scalp and greasy hair, it's gross and I hate that I have to wash my hair everyday TWICE a day, definitely not great for my hair health! Is there a way I can prevent an oily scalp without overdoing it with the shampoo and conditioner routine?

Use dry shampoo ! Gets rid of oily hair without the hassle of a shower

Try a co-wash routine. Thats when you use conditioner in the same way you use shampoo ( scrubbing it into the roots and also running it through the lengths) I do this alternating between normal shampooing and it works like a charm!!

baby powder in the hair and let it sit for about 5 minutes to absorb extra oil and then brush it out. Dry shampoo usually has a lot of alcohol which can be very damaging to the hair shaft.

Head and shoulders worked WONDERS for my sister. (and no, she does not have dandruff) lol. It really cleanses the hair while still locking in your natural moisture. Which helps prevent over-production of oils (:

i lived in Hawai'i for 3 years so i can understand what you mean about the heat & humidity there being unbearable. Your problem maybe the shampoo & conditioner you are using (which probably has alot of wax it in) try a different brand, i recommend Matrix Biolage & if thats too pricey, then try Herbal Essences in Honey I'm Strong. Hopefully your oily scalp decreases, but just know that living in that type of weather will indeed cause excess oil on your scalp. Aloha! ;-)

For oily scalp I would not use products that say hydrating or moisturizing. Look for products that are for clarifying and I recommend salon brands like Aveda Scalp Benefits. Drugstore products do have a lot of wax in them.
