I know benzoyl peroxide is the main acne treating chemical in a lot of face washes and I was recently reading that this chemical is unsafe and can cause cancer does anyone know anything about this because I use this twice a day to wash my face??

I would recommend that if you are concerned and worried then use something that has AHA and glycolic acid 10% this is great for preventing future breakouts and smooth the skin. you can switch to something that has salicylic acid instead

Really? I have never heard of aha or glycolic acid. What OTC face wash are they in do you know?? And salicylic acid is safe?

Mario Badsecu has a cleanser and toner that contains glycolic acid. The cleanser is pretty awesome...I never tried the toner but the cleanser in my opinion is much better than benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is perfectly fine to use. It is not cancer causing...you can't always believe what you read off the internet. That stuff has been around for ages if it indeed was a cancer causer than 95% of my highschool graduating class of 1992 would've come down with cancer because all used Clearasil growing up. With everything you have to follow up with your own research and not take things at face value.

Just use salicylic acid cleanser or glycolic as Shelley suggested I like salicylic because it doesn't dry you out like benzoyl peroxide and it penetrates the pore wall to deep clean I only use benzoyl peroxide to spot treat, and glycolic will resurface the skin for a overall more even texture and tone.

Why would benzoyl peroxide cause cancer? its a peroxide, its job its to oxigenate the skin to kill the acne bacteria, it doesn't seem very harmful to me. besides, why would my dermatologist recommend me benzoyl without telling me that it can cause cancer?

Ana P. you're just fine. Benzoyl peroxide cancer rumor is just that....a rumor. All created to cause mass hysteria. :(

Salicylic acid isn't nearly as effective as benzoyl peroxide. The stuff in acne treatment isn't enough to give you cancer, otherwise it wouldn't be legal to sell those products. So keep using your benzoyl products.

I'm extremely allergic to benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide isn't good for your skin, it kind of fights the problem of acne but it doesn't actually treat it. It also causes bleaching and discoloration. My boyfriend used to use it and one time he dropped a small amount on his carpet and wiped it up right away and it actually burned a small hole through his carpet. I wouldn't recommend putting something like that on your face.
