Do you use bronzer to contour or just a darker foundation?

I'm pretty sure to contour your face like this
White is highlighting and brown is bronzer

You can use either
Lots of people say don't contour with bronzer, but I think it looks fine

Well, bronzer isn't made to contour, but Wayne Goss says you can use a matte bronzer for a more everyday contoured look. You can use a darker creme foundation or a contour powder.

I've always just used a matte on the cooler toned side for contouring :)

You GENERALLY contour with a COOL toned powder two to three shades darker than your skin tone. Many say not to use a bronzer because the undertones are WARM, and orange is not the color of shadows, which is what contouring is supposed to add, contouring is virtually adding shadows to your face for more dimension. That is why many say be to use a bronzer, because it doesn't really have the same effect if it's warm. I use a cool toned bronzer from elf called matte brown, it's perfect for me, matte with next to no warm tones. It does however have a teensy bit if shimmer in the pan but it doesn't show up in the application! The regular application of bronzer is different from contouring, too. I say you try a cool powder , and then try one you want to see which one you like more, I doubt you will spend a lot just try elf! Or some other drugstore brands like WnW! Remember , you can always tweak makeup "rules" or break them if it works for you!

You can use either a darker foundation or a powder, both alphabet slightly different finishes I've found! (Recently started to experiment with contouring and highlighting!) , but there is only a small difference. It depends on your preference as well as skin type! Do you have dry skin or oily?

I agree with Sandra completely, sure makeup has guidelines and proper techniques if you're trying to achieve a certain look but like Sandra said, I think bending the "rules" is needed to find out what works for one individual and what doesn't. I don't think there are any "rules" in makeup, there aren't any in art, just techniques and that's the way I like to think of makeup.
