I'm just wondering... Do you NEED to put primer on before you put on your foundation or bb cream? Or is there an alternative? The same goes for eyeshadow... I've heard you can use a bit of foundation for eyeshadow primer, but I don't know if that works as well? I just went makeup shopping today, but I didn't bother buying any primer. So basically what I'm asking is, do you have to wear primer before you put on foundation and eyeshadow, and what does it do?

Wayne Goss actually just made a YouTube video about primers and why he does't think they're necessary. I think it's just preference. With bb creams some actually have primer in them already, and with foundation I think it depends on the foundation.

I don't wear foundation so I don't know if it's needed, but I do always prime my eyes before applying eyeshadow. I have really oily skin so if I don't my eyeshadow will crease. Primer just helps it not crease and last longer, as well as making the eyeshadow appear more pigmented.

I think it depends on your Skin type. I personally have a very oily skin and if I don't apply a primer my make up will not last. Same goes for the eyelids, without a primer my shadow will crease.

Without primer, my foundation settles into my pores and since I don't have the nicest skin the finished look isn't "smooth". Primer evens out the bumps on my face (I have a few chicken spot scars and huge pores) and it also makes my foundation last a lot longer.

For me, primer is a must. I have really clear skin and it has gotten less oily, so I don't use primer for those reasons. However, primer makes my foundation blend more easily. With primer my makeup just looks better.

I just use a bb cream underneath.

I don't use a face primer and I really haven't found one that I like and don't think it's completely necessary for me. Eye primer though is essential for me because my eyelids are oily. I think needed or wanting a primer depends on your skin type.

I use it because I have super oily skin and it makes my makeup look a lot smoother.

I definitely recommend primers! They help make you're makeup last longer throughout the day although when wearing a bb cream some already have a primer In them and adding a primer may make your face oily
