Is MAC too much of a hype?

I am a teen and I like makeup and want to make beauty videos. It seems to me that people that buy the expensive things like MAC get more views than anything. Plus, I don't want to pay $16-$25 dollars for a lipstick I will not wear often. So is MAC hype? Because their makeup is not all that to behonest. And also, are you interested in youtubers that have these expensive products and please be honest.

Personally I don't think mac is all everyone makes it out to be, I tried one of their products an was matched to nc15 which is the lightest shade they have at my local mac store and I was so wrong expecting miracles in a bottle (was trying studio fix fluid) and I did find the coverage nice but overall way too cakey, couldn't get it too look right cause it was so dark so I gave it to a friend. But as for your YouTube question, I really just look for products I lean towards that aren't high end like Rimmel and brands like that. I think people are more interested in how to use good quality drugstore products then high end brands. If that makes sense. That's just what I tend to look for in tutorials and stuff. :)

I personally think it's the quality of your videos! A lot of the makeup youtubers I watch have very good quality videos that definitely know what their doing. I have never owned a Mac product and based off the price I feel not many of their viewers actually buy it because of it. I watched one of your videos and if your looking for more subscribers or views you should talk to your audience more and show them how you did it! I like you tubers personality!

I believe so.. I make beauty videos also and I use pretty much drug store products. its how you use your products.but I also agree that ladies that use high end makeup do get more views and more subscribers. its don't bother me at all. search for me under "Beautywithinxo" on YouTube.

Some Mac products are over-hyped. Like their their brushes and, personally, their foundations. But some of their products totally own up to their reputation. Their concealers and Mineralize Skin Finishes are amazing.
When it comes to videos, the quality of the video itself is a real eye catcher. If a video looks like it's horrible quality, there's a good chance I won't bother watching it. Like Janelle, I like watching videos the include high end products though, so I know what I should splurge on.

Lately I've been using a lot mac products but there are certain ones I won't go near because of personal preferences. it's all about how a product works for an individual, so really I can't say if the brand as a whole is over hyped. Some products do seem a little overpriced, but compared to other high end brands they're on the more affordable side. I do have to agree that some of their brushes are overpriced though. I try to use a good mix of drugstore and high end products, for some things I prefer drugstore products and others I might have a high end favorite.

I personally do not like a lot of MAC products. I do love their lipsticks and blushes though. That's just me. It depends on the person, we all have different skin types and different preferences. As for youtube, I personally just care about the quality of the video. People with better cameras and interesting videos are going to have more subscribers than a little digital camera and boring videos. That's just how it goes and from what I've seen is that the beauty gurus have a good combo of drugstore and high end which attracts younger viewers with less money and teens and older viewers with more money (: sorry if I'm blabbing on.

Maybe. but they have great products like their lippies, brushes, concealer (prolongwear is my HG) but like all brands they have their hits and misses. I agree with josii, compared to high end brands they aren't as expensive.

I did a review on here for Mac lipsticks. Now, I'm just speaking for this one small portion of Mac. And I pointed out the good things. I love the colors and I love the celeb lines they put out every so often. I use the lipsticks as layering with other lipsticks. However, the color doesn't last as long unless you buy a matching liner. And for me they are matte depending which one you get. So those are some down falls for me. Other wise they are decent but I like other brands of expensive and non expensive lipsticks.

I think it shouldn't matter what products you use, I tend to subscribe to users who use higher quality cameras & good lighting because you can see the makeup better.

I personally really love MAC. Their lipsticks are my favorite lipsticks. They have a huge shade range and they're not at all drying. I also really like their eye shadows, blushes, gel eyeliner, pro longwear concealer, and their mineralized skin finish natural is awesome. I'm not a fan of their foundation though. But I do think MAC is worth the money, honestly you get what you pay for.

I think it depends on what product you are using. I have never had good luck with the brand, I know for a fact that I have used and use drugstore products that were 10x better. I like the variety of their shades for lipsticks and foundations but personally I don't think they are worth it in terms of how long they last and the finish/quality. I have often thought that maybe the products just weren't meant for me because everyone is different, but my friend uses their foundation and it looks awful, so overall I don't think the brand is worth the hype. It might have been at one time but with the variety of brands available now, I don't think its that great.

I really love their makeup. But.. I appreciate artists that can make gorgeous looks from any brand -drugstore or high end. Just go with what works for you. I use wet n wild products all the time and they are all under $3.00!! Don't follow what other artists use, use whatever you like best :) MAC is great, but their are TONS of other fantastic makeup too. Good luck on the videos :)

Personally I would say yes, however I don't have a lot of their products, or have tried a lot of things from them (I own a few eyeshadows and one lippie, also tried a compact powder foundation from them back in the day, Studio Fix I think, which was very good) I'm a person that doesn't really see the point of buying HE when my DS products work perfectly fine and get the job done and done well, I have alot of MAC "Dupe" items from the DS. And to be quite honest alot of my DS eyeshadows blow my MAC ones out of the water. But that's just me :) If its something I want or think is cool/or unique I'll buy it. On YT I'll watch anyone as long as their skill set is beyond mine and I can actually learn something what they use doesn't really matter to me.

I think MAC is very overhyped, and that a lot of the hype is created by the brand itseld..that being said, I did just purchase some LE items, which I love. There's certain things MAC does very well. Cute af packaging on their LE's, good matte lippies, their powder blushes, MSF, cream color bases, and their prep and prime line. a lot of girls on here like their pro longwear concealer, too. I see makeup as collectibles, so I happily purchase LE stuff. recently, I purchased Pure Heroine (Lorde collection), and multiple items from Pedro Lourenco and the Osbournes. Pricey, yes. to me, those items are worth it. for their regular line, tho, I don't turn to them for everything and I find it expensive. I don't use their shadows, foundations, concealers, lashes, fix +, ect, only the above mentioned products. MAC is not the end-all be-all for makeup, but for LE's and fun packaging, they are superb.

I think it depends on which products, some are suuuper great, I love their eyeshadows& brushes :) but I've heard that most of their foundations cause breakouts or that some of their nail-polishes arent the best. I personally like Mac :)

I like mac! But I always research everything before I buy so I KNOW I'm getting what I paid for! I love macs brushes.
