Every morning I think I look great leaving my house but shortly after that I look in the mirror at work and I realize my makeup looks as if its just sitting on my face . No matter how much I try to blend! I start with primer, then use oil free foundation, powder and blush. And then by the end of the day I look splotchy! What am I doing wrong?

Is it a eye primer or face?

Are your brushes clean? Also, what kind of light are you doing your makeup in? Those things are a factor. And what products? Some just don't work well with each other. Try a different primer one day. my go to foundation always gives me prefect, flawless skin. But one day i used a high end primer and it was a mess. Exactly what you described. So you might need to do a little searching.

Plus, it could be the lighting at work. Florescent lighting is extremely unflattering.

Thanks for the replies! I'm using face primer and I've been using Laura mercier primer as well as foundation. My brushes aren't as clean as they probably should be, I wash them every few months, should I wash them more? As to the lights, its definitely not natural in my bedroom or my office!

@ Justine you try washing your brush every once or twice a week. Its really important to clean off your foundation residue very often;)

Thanks ill start washing my brushes more! I didn't realize it was that big of a deal! And Yumi, I do! I put my primer on then I make breakfast or coffee and then come back and finish my makeup!

You need to be washing your brushes at least once a week, or once every two weeks. All that gunk just piles up and up and up. It's like not washing your pots and pans and still cooking food on them every day.

i dont think its all that much the brushes....how is your skuin before you put on the primer? is it exfoliated well? the lights are probably a hugeee difference...and sometimes blending too much can blend away your makeup? maybe you should post a pic idk

When she's only washing her brushes once every few months, it is certainly a factor, haha. Makeup looks like poop when your old foundation that has been piled up for months meets "fresh" foundation.

i just meant i dont think thats the only issue. only because i dont wash my brushes THAT often at all however i do wipe them off with a tissue after each use. i just assumed she would notice if her brushes were that dirty that they were causing that many issues in her foundation application!

I Have The SAME Problem! I Think It's Because My Face Is Oily?!

try peeling a tissue in half and blotting/pressing it on your foundation after you apply and before you powder it will absorb all the oil and leave the pigment.

You need to set your face, it sounds like that's what is missing. They sell setting sprays, but I swear by Evian facial mist, it makes the makeup melt into the skin and leaves nothing behind that could be irritating. I think that perhaps combined with with the tips for keeping brushes clean & so forth would make a world of difference.

You should wash your face brushes every time you use them and do your makeup in good lighting, try for a couple of light on. :)

Yu could try a makeup setting spray too. I've heard it makes your foundation look amazing

I thought setting your face with powder was good enough!? Gah who would have thought at my age I'd still have no idea what I was doing, thank you all so much!

I will get that blotchy look if I'm in a hurry and put my powder on too soon after my foundation.

It could also be your skin just try a good facial wash exfoliate and moisturize and maybe a setting spray but that is really not needed your face changes during the day you get oily or dry lol makeup is not concrete it will come off :-) and setting powder is suppose to help just gotta find the right foundation for your skin.

You can buy the Urban Decay Setting Sprays that Tiffany posted a picture of, for ultra cheap! The Urban Decay website has the XL bottles on sale for $18 each, instead of their retail price of $34 each. I just stocked up on few extra bottles and received them in the mail today =)
