I've been getting into more natural skincare lately, and I discovered the Konjac sponge. I'm curious, have any of you tried it? I'm very interested in trying it because I really like the concept behind it (although it would be weird not using a cleanser..) and that it's all natural.

I had the white boscia one. You still use a cleanser with it and it's very gentle. It's not an exfoliator but it feels much better than using your hands. This will be really good for anyone who has sensitive skin because you can go to town on your face with that thing and it won't irritate it. They also have konjac sponges that are infused with things like aloe or charcoal. I haven't tried one of those big I read it doesn't make that much of a difference. Anyway, I did really like my konjac sponge but it's not worth getting an expensive one. I accidentally used mine with cleansing oil and it shriveled up and got super gross and hard. You can find cheaper ones elsewhere and they're essentially the same.

Sephora sells the boscia ones for $18. www.drsponge.com is cheaper and you can also look on ebay and amazon.

Ecotools also sell their version of it and I loved how it helped with my black heads and my skin did look clearer. Definitely worth checking out.

Dr. Sponge is my favorite! I've used the charcoal and currently using the lavender one. My mom and sister use them as well (they have their own Lol)! It's a gentle exfoliator, so I use it everyday. Sometimes twice a day depending on my skin. It removes makeup that I thought I've gotten! It controls my flaky dry oily skin! I go through them every 4 months since I use them daily. I recommend it!

What about bacteria? Havent heard of these... but as a rule I've never reused facial sponges, they pick up bacterias that grow rapidly.

I'd imagine disposables work just as well.

Amy, here's a quote from their website, "The Konnyaku is a perennial plant native to Asia, and can be found growing wild at very high altitudes. A totally natural food source, Konjac is 97% water, rich in mineral goodness and low in calories. Naturally alkaline, Konjac is pH neutral which leaves skin perfectly balanced."
Basically it's a sponge that already has all the skincare benefits you need and can gently but effectively cleanse and exfoliate your skin. Like the beauty blender, it expands in size when held under water. You store it in the fridge to prevent bacteria from spreading and can boil it for sterilization.

Low ph, means its a breeding ground for bacteria...
But, replacing it frequently, cleansing with anti micobial, boiling... I guess helps
You can buy natual, dehydrated sponges, in bulk... we use them in spa on men and clients who don't like face draping.
Your skin is basically its own ecosystem... full of microbes, bacterias, good and bad. Your skin its healthy and happy when its balanced... our face, needs to have a ph level of 4.5 to 5.5. Which is acidic, not alkaline. Neutral is 7. Once skin gets neutral or alkaline, bad microbes and bacterias begin out balance good. We get dry or oily. We get breakouts, sensitivity, infkammation, loss of oxygenation and cell turn over sliws down.
So, its why, its important to keep skins balance. And to maintain healthy eco system on face.
Also, despite what package says, boiling sponges, sanatizes, but does not sterlize sponges.
Just trying to be helpful. I get very annoyed at these products that coukd do more harm then good.

P.s. I also won't use beauty blenders... only wedges, that gets disposed, after each use.

Thanks for the info! It's a shame to realize how clueless most of us (including myself) are about the products we use on our skin because we never ask experts such as yourself about them or we're too lazy to do research (sad but true!).
That being said, I'm going to try it anyway because I'm stupidly stubborn & already had my heart set on trying it :) If my skin reacts badly at least I'll know; otherwise I'll just keep wondering. But seriously, thank you for taking the time to share all that info. I really appreciate it, and it wasn't in vain because I'll keep it in mind (and screenshot it!) for future reference. And don't worry, I've never owned a beauty blender & don't plan on it, I was just using it as a example of how much of their weight in water they can absorb :)

Understand... just use a good toner after to rebalance ph... alkaline can be good for some things... but always re acidify skin... and consider freezing it between uses... freezing kills microbes... wring out as much moisture as you can when done.
Its not laziness... its advertising... doing what's its suppose to

Thanks! and I have one (possibly dumb) question: how do you know if the products you're using are pH balanced? I know some specify it on the packaging, but if they don't does that mean that they're not?
