I've never used a face primer or setting spray ans I'm thinking of getting some but I want to know if it changes the way your makeup looks, how does it affect your makeup?

Usually setting sprays and primers are used to make your makeup last longer. Some primers are used to make pores appear smaller also.

Face primer is put under your makeup to make sure your makeup doesn't wear away as fast, but some also minimize or fill in pores, mattify your face or moisturize.
A setting spray also is used to help makeup last longer, and some help give a dewy, satin or matte effect to the makeup applied.

If you don't have any current issues or problems with your foundation, it's not a necessary step. You don't have to use the products just for the sake of using them.
Primers have a lot of different uses, depending on which ones you buy - it can be mattifying, color correcting, pore refining, hydrating, or a bunch of other things. Mostly it just acts as a "filler" to create a smooth canvas to apply your face makeup on, and it also helps your foundation to stick to your skin better. The main thing is that you use one that is compatible with your foundation - some people say that you shouldn't mix an oil-based product with one that is silicone or water based, but this isn't always the case. You have to experiment and find what works for you.
A setting spray almost always leaves a dewy finish on the skin. Sometimes with certain foundations and powders your makeup ends up looking very flat, powdery, and fake, so you can use a setting spray to counteract that.

One thing about a primer that was not said was the it protects the skin from the makeup. It's creates a layer. That's why I use it when I do put foundation on.

It absolutely makes a different! I don't use a primer everyday but I do when I need to look extra good or need my makeup to last a bit longer! With a primer my skin looks flawless and it last longer the normal! Setting apart I also use when I know my makeup have to last all day and night or if it's raining - my malt doesn't move an inch even in pouring rain! I made a thread about setting sprays in rain a couple of months ago called "what did we do before setting spray" in that thread there is a picture of me and my makeup after a 30 minutes bike ride on pouring rain :)

There are various types of primers that target different needs like illuminating, anti-acne, pore-minimizing, mattifying, etc. I find that primers make a difference for me in helping my foundation last longer, but I mainly use them for my drier areas so my foundation looks more smooth.
Setting sprays are amazing for helping your makeup stay in place throughout the day. The UD all nighter spray is a very popular one that definitely will make you makeup last longer, but I probably use the UD chill spray more often because my skin is dry. It doesn't necessarily keep your makeup lasting as long as the all nighter one but it keeps my makeup looking really fresh like I just applied it.

I swear by the Urban Decay setting sprays. I'm not crazy for any primers really.
