I have always wanted to get acrylic nails but I am worried that they damage your nails. Is this true? How are acrylic nails put on and why do they ruin your nails?
Thanks so much :)

Thank you! and I do think they are worth getting but they can be pricey depending what you get... and I would not get them if you do not plan on getting them filled every 2-3 weeks

I had acrylic nails for a couple of years but got them taken off because it was just too expensive. You have to get them filled every 3-4 weeks so it's very pricey and very time consuming. While they are very pretty, they are definitely bad for the nails. They also hurt like hell if you break one and they take ages to get used to when you first get them. Maybe just start off with gel nails and see how you go with that.

Acrylics do damage your nails but if you keep up with the fills then you don't have as many ridges when you do remove them. I think it also depends on the nail technician. The place I go to is awesome. I had acrylic on for about three months this last time. When I went in to have them redone I was surprised at relatively good condition my natural nails were in. yes they were a bit weak but not totally ruinef. I didn't even have to cut them down much. I opted to have a gel fill instead and I actually like that better than having the acrylic tips.

I had them for 8 years. When I took them out, The nails were ruined until the damaged part grew out and now they are healthy and smooth.

Yes it ruins your nails and leave a hideous dent on your nail. It takes months to grow out. If you only put them on once than youll be fine.

I used to get acrylics, I love them and I probably will get them again sometime in the future. They do damage your nails but if you keep them short and hydrated with a good thick skin cream they grow out fairly fast. I say you try them with a short style that way you will know for sure how you feel about them. You could also try buying the fake nails that you just glue on. Not so damaging and not a long commitment.
