Hey girls!
So, I was wondering if you found this situation as unprofessional as I did or as a warning to keep me from a bad experience? I was at my local mall where we have an outlet store that carries Mac, Estee Lauder, Smashbox, etc. When I was in there the lady at the counter offered to do my makeup with some of their most popular products (something they do very often). My friend and I said "No. This time we're actually going to go see what the woman at BareMinerals can do." The lady immediately shook her head and told us how the people at BareMinerals have no idea what they are doing and will screw up my face because they aren't trained properly. Most times we talk to the employees at all the beauty stores about where we are getting out makeup done because they are all good friend and none of them have ever said anything like this! My friend and I both just found her comments completely unacceptable and unprofessional. What do you girls think? Was this unprofessional or are we overreacting?

Did you ask her why or how they would mess up your face? Otherwise she's clearly out to date on the term of self taught make up artists, not to mention there are trained make up artists working on counters.
They do compete with other counters for sales... But it doesn't make sense that she would do that. My mother worked at Kiehl's in Nordstorm and if you said you wanted Clinique they would point you towards that direction not tell you climique is going to mess up your face. That is bad work ethic... I'd hate to see how'd she would treat a client when she's having a bad day.

Seems to me that she only did that to so you can obviously not go to bare minerals because she probably wanted to do your makeup in hopes youll buy something there and not at bareminerals.

That just sounds unprofessional and a bit rude. She shouldn't have told they would "mess up your face" they wouldn't even have a job there if they were going to mess up your face! It sounds like she just wanted to make a sale.

I think that that was a very unprofessional thing to do and that she was just doing that to get you to stay at there store

Maybe she was in desperate need of a sale. Bad talking was not the answer. I'd find it rude because I always feel awkward and bad. I would say thank you for the information or kind warning but we will go check it out. She could be saving you from poorly trained makeup artists or she is just being a bad sales person to make a sale. Usually counter workers have 2 jobs sell and to be a makeup artist. But I see why you'd be upset completely! (Sorry for the rabble! )

That's ridiculous! She obviously wanted you to buy from.her and only her - maybe she wasn't meeting her sales quota and was getting desperate! I've had my makeup done at bareminerals plenty of times by several different artists and they were all brilliant! At the end of the day, they wouldn't be working there as a makeup artist if they couldn't apply makeup. I would have either reported her to the manager or just gone to bareminerals anyway and never bought anything from that woman again! Rude, disrespectful and just not right.

Thanks girls! I did think it was unprofessional especially after I explained that have very sensitive skin so I only tend to use mineral makeup. They didn't have any I could try and I never buy high end without seeing the product. Another sales woman in the same store also seemed appalled by how the girl spoke about bare minerals and I'm glad to hear that others feel the same and that my friend and I weren't over reacting

You're welcome. Although at this point I have to agree with the rude sales lady... If you have sensitive skin mineral make up actually makes it a lot worse. Mineral make up is very irritating for the skin, the particles in it.. Although tiny.. Basically poke and scratch at the skin and can aggravate acne and expand pores. So she was on point about it ruining your skin lol.

Very unprofessional in my opinion. I understand stores compete, but it's always better to be positive towards any situation. Such comments as she made, gave a rude impression. As a customer, I really wouldn't appreciate it. I'd rather have the lady say something like "well that's alright, I hope you find what you're looking for and have a nice day" than "they'll mess up your face" haha

It's completely unprofessional. I'm a professional makeup artist myself, and you're allowed to think whatever you want about a persons, but openly bashing another persons work as an artist is not only rude and unprofessional, it's just ugly.

@Kitty K.
She was saying that they didn't know how to apply makeup not that the mineral makeup would hurt my face. I actually prefer mineral makeup because I don't get as many breakout and it doesn't actually hurt my skin I guess it really is true that everyone's skin is different! Thanks for your input! :) I really appreciate it!
