If you get natural highlights get your hair wet and then go outside and let the sun bleach it.

The sun won't change your hair unless you're in it often and for long periods of times. Really, you can't go lighter without bleaching or using a prelightener. I really like the Nordic blonde range from shwartzkopft, works really well and you can choose the amount of shades you want lifted.

Try using a shampoo called shimmer lights by Clairol we use it on high lighted hair in the salon it keeps blonde from becoming to brassy, I'm not too sure if it will work on natural blond but it's worth a shot.

I did mine with baking soda and 3% (drugstore) peroxide and there was very minimal damage. I even put the mixture on the bleached ad damaged parts of my hair and there was still a very minimal amount of damage. People who haven't tried it will probably say not to do it but in all of my experience it has been better for your hair that bleach or normal dyes :)

Baking soda and peroxide are horrible for your hair. The baking soda is way to harsh, and not ph balanced. Whenever you use baking soda you need to restore the ph balance with something like apple cider vinegar.

Bleach is the same way. So is any kind of dye :) trust me lol I've studied this :) and as long as you use a good clarifying shampoo you will be alright :) not trying to sound rude.

Just go outside a lot for natural bleached hair did you know that Bethany Hamilton's hair is actually brown but it's blonde because she's outside all day!

Bleach is not the same as baking soda and peroxide. bleach is made to go on your hair, baking soda and peroxide are not. in all my years of doing hair I have never heard of this and I can't imagine its healthy for your head. Just as Alex said, it will throw off the Ph of your hair. Hair color is not the same way either. bleach is not that bad for your hair. if its done right, it will cause little to no damage. If do t wwrong, then yeah your hair is going to be fried. but Elizabeth, if you have never colored your hair before, then bleach is not necessary. you can use color, or a hilift color. I k.ow you said you don't want to lighten your hair but things like lemon juice and baking soda w peroxide are still, in theory, coloring your hair. just with more damage then an actual dye.

I use a whole lemon (or lemon juice) and mix it with chamomile tea (cup of water and 2-3 teabags). Then I just mix it in a spray bottle and spray it all over my hair and sit out in the sun for more than an hour. I do this every summer and my dirty blonde hair turns to a much lighter blonde. I get results in a few days (usually lots of highlights) but it can take a couple weeks so see a dramatic change. I've never experienced any damage, but you could use conditioner afterwards if you're worried. If lemons don't work even just being out in the sun (everyday for at least half an hour) turns your hair blonder, or in my case it does lol.

Smh. People are so uninformed. Bleach is not just hands down going to ruin your hair. Depending on how resistant your hair is, how light to begin with, how light you want to go, how slowly you do the process, etc. these factors are going to make the difference in how your hair reacts to the bleach. I would much rather go see a professional and have a low solution of bleach applied to highlight or whatever than use some at home concoction someone on the Internet used with unknown results.

Thank you, Bree!! so many people are afraid of bleach and it makes me crazy. I have clients come in wanting hilites, then they say "but I don't want you to use bleach". I seriously have to explain to them the principles of hair color and what not. Bleach gets such a bad rap and it's because girls use it at home, untrained, and fry the hell out of their hair. I've seen damage done in the salon as well, its easy to get careless with it. but bleach is not a monster. using a low volume bleach in a controlled environment will not melt your hair off.

Exactly bree and Kelly. I got my hair bleached when I was 11, we did if at home and it fried my hair. But than after cutting it and starting over, at like 14 I got it all bleached in a salon and there was like zero damage. She used a deep conditioner and it felt like nothing had happened. In the past two years I've had my hair full on bleached twice and bleach bathed at least 4 times and my hair is in better condition than most peoples undyed hair.
People stop my on a daily basis asking how to get my hair color when it's colored, and unless they're bleach blonde already I start by "you have to bleach it first" and they almost always say "no I'm not bleaching my hair, bleach will make your hair fall off". And it's so irritating, I do the same thing and explain how hair works and how I'm an example of how bleach does not make your hair fall off, it does not turn it into straw unless you over bleach or don't know what you're doing.

I just want to say, I agree with Kelly and Alyx so much. Really, bleach isn't as scary as people make it sound. I had the same sortof experience, bleached my hair when I was like 14 and didn't know what I was doing; used 40vol on black hair and it broke off; since then I learnt how to do it properly (obvs I'm not a professional) but I learnt from that experience and I've bleached my hair twice in the last 3 months and my hairs still in good conditions because it was done right, it was a learning. Experience for me to learn but now I have no problems bleaching my hair (I just suck at touching regrowth up) hahah. I'm not patient enough for that. But I'd just learn how to use bleach, do your research or go to the salon; it really doesn't = death of hair. Hahaha.
