My friend tried shellac gel polish two weeks ago. She had it taken off recently and her nails are very weak. I was thinking about trying it, but I'm hesitant because I don't want to ruin my strong nails. Can you all share your experience with gel polish? Thanks!

I use to have super strong nails but recently they've been chipping and breaking... I don't take good care of them though. I don't know, I would only do gel once in a while, for special occasions.

They're nightmares to me I've had have really long strong nails before I used gel polishes. After using them last year, my nails git very brittle and breaks very easily so I had trouble growing them back. I totally won't recommend it. Now, I don't use it anymore and my nails have gone back to being stronger and longer.

I wear shellac all the time,yes it can do damage because it is a bunch of chemicals but I still have very strong nails because I take care of them, so it really depends on how you care for your nails while you have shellac on in my opinion(:

Gel nails made my nails stronger. When I first took them off I had weird white stuff on my nails though. It went away after a day it so. I've only had them once though.

Having anything over the nails can weaken them. Polishes, acrylics, gels, etc. reduce oxygenation of the nail bed and trap moisture against the nail plate. Over time, this causes the nails to become brittle, soft, and weak.
Additionally, buffing before applying nail products and using strong chemicals such as acetone in the entire process (including removal) will damage nails as well.

Don't do it unless you are going on vacation or have a big event coming up. Try CND Vinylux, it is like a gel but doesn't use harmful you've rays. Goes on like a regular polish and lasts a week!
