So I have a few questions about self tanning. I have never self tanned. I'm completely new. I would like step by step on what to do when it comes to applying and also prepping my skin.
So here comes my questions. I hope somebody can help me please :(
1. What product should I use to exfoliate my body with before applying the fake bake tanning lotion?
2. When I apply the fake bake product should I put it on my face as well?
3. If I do apply it to my face... Should I stick to BB cream to just blur my imperfections... Cuz I do want to wear a little makeup...( sorry I'm going camping for two days... And this is why I'm looking into self tanning products. I will be going in the water as well)
4. Once the fake bake lotion is on me and stained... Could I layer it with Jergens natural glow lotion to get some shimmer as well and would it effect my fake tan? Meaning will it start coming off because I'm using another product for a glow. If that makes any sense.

Please please help me. I have no clue and I been asking my friends and they seem to not answer my questions... They always tell me I'm not sure. And I just need some guidance. Thank you so much

I will attempt answering some of these but I can't answer all the questions. It's great to exfoliate before tanning. You can get an exfoliant or make your own. I personally use Arbonne Sea Scrub. Also when applying self tanner you should buy one of those gloves to put the lotion on evenly. Using just your bare hand can leave streaks. I don't have experience with Fake Bake so I'm not sure if it's intended for face use, it should say on the bottle like most products do. Clarins has a face tanner specifically for the face which works well. I'm also not sure how adding Jergens would affect the tan, I've never tried that before but I assume it would just give you a darker tan but I don't really think you should put 2 different tanning lotions on you because it might turn orange. I've used Jergens and the colour is nice however it peeled off like craaazy in the water. I went swimming in the ocean and I had horrible patches all over my legs and it looks horrible. This has happened with other tanning lotions I've used and I personally wouldn't use them again for this reason.

Shauna thank you so much on answering some of my questions. I'm super new to this and have no idea on what to do or what to expect. I'm glad you told me that it's probably best not to apply on my face. I was nervous about that cuz then I was worried about how can I do my makeup if I'm a different color on my face. Lol

I'm going to also attempt to answer your questions I've done a lot of self tanning but never with fake bake.
1) definitely exfoliate and shave before tanning. I use an exfoliating sponge I got at my local drug store and I just use a moisturizing body wash on my sponge.
2) I've never applied self tanner to my face out of fear that it's going to look crazy or that it'll be splotchy if I have dry spots I'm not aware of.
3) for camping yes I would just wear a bb cream especially if you tan your face because the tanner will cover pretty will.
4) wait at least 12 hours before showering and when you do shower just let the water run on you do not use anything but your hands to gently soap up your body, and after showering yes you can use jergens on top of your tan. I do you wanna stay as moisturized as possible to keep your tan looking good.

before tanning I would apply a thin coat of a regular plain lotion to your elbows, knees and wrists that helps keeping those areas from absorbing more of the color because they're drier. Definitely wear gloves whether it's just plain latex gloves or gloves meant for applying tanning lotion. You can also Google tips for applying fake bake I'm sure there's a ton.

No problem! Yes I know what you mean about not wanting your face to look a different colour lol. I find at least for me personally my face tans a lottt faster than any other part of my body. For me I don't need to use tanning lotion on my face because it will just naturally get tanned. Also self tanners are just a gradual tan so you shouldn't notice a huge difference if your face is lighter unless you want to acheive a really dark tan. You can also buy a foundation or bb cream that is a bit darker than the one you use now so that it matches your tanned skin.

Also, I use an old (clean) sock for an even application. It's kinda weird, but it doesn't cost anything and it gives you a super even application. It also saves you from orange hands.

No problem Jacqueline. I definitely have an orange tint to my skin when I self tan so I don't blame you!

Shauna is spot on when it comes to salt water or pools. I work in a tanning salon on my spare time and the first thing I tell customers to avoid is pools and the ocean.. which is hard here since I live in Florida however both will strip any sort of fake tan, lotion or spray. Also don't use any silicone based products before you use a fake tanner the silicone can cause splotching and leave a very uneven tan.

Yeah it really sucks, it on;y really makes sense to tan in the winter when you aren't going swimming but then who would ever see you tanned? You want to tan in the summer because then you can look awesome in a bikini but it defeats the purpose if you can't go swimming. There really needs to be a product that actually lasts on the skin.
