If you do use the loreal hi color, use a 20 vol developer and do your roots last. It's the heat from your head (and that roots are usually virgin hair) that causes it to process faster. But it does work on non virgin hair. I dyed my hair black and used the loreal hi color on it and it came out very red

However long the box says, minus 10 or so minutes if you don't want too bright but just monitor it as it goes. It's been a couple years since I used it so
