Thinning hair! Help!

My mum has the same problem (of really thin hair) so I know that partly my hair getting really thin is genetic, but I love my long hair and I don't want to cut it! I know shorter hair will have more bounce and volume and as I've seen it grow longer it just looks flat and lack lustre but I'm hoping you great minds out there have a solution! Please help!
