The key to blending is to not take to much color and its better to build it up. Use circular or windshield motion. I suggest YouTube :)

Also soft bristles blend easier than stuff bristles.

Make sure you don't use a brush that you used to apply, to blend. Use a clean brush specifically for blending and not for adding additional shadow.

The perfect blending brush is all perspective, I use ones from ecotools, but I also have a facebrush I cut up that works awesome. For me personally, I lay down a heavy defined line of water color I want, then take a separate brush and just keep rubbing it. For darker colors I sometimes pick up a lighter color closer to my skintone to blend it out with. I also know a lot of people that work little by little, only laying tiny bits of color as they go.
