Cross your pins into an X and make sure the flat part of the pin is facing up. We usually put the zig-zag facing up but the zig-zag is suppose to hold the hair in place.

Crossing them over also works and I also hear that spraying them with hairspray and letting them dry before you put them in your helps also.

Pin them going up then loop them down. It will not only hide your bobby pins, but it will also hold your hair. It's my favorite pinning technique when it comes to up-dos. It also depends on the weight of your hair and pins you're using.

Okay I always cross mine into an x but before that you need to make sure they are facing the bumpy side down! That is what are the teeth which hold them in your hair!

Make sure your using the closed bobby pins and not the ones that are already spaced apart.
Then clip the hair that's sticking out with hair that's already laying down
