You could just take a pic of your face for each step and then crop it so the picture only fills up your eye? I don't know if that how they do it, but its just a suggestion lol.

If you have a DSLR it might help to purchase a macro lens :)

Lol, I was wondering about the same thing. I have a DSLR, too but my photos never turn out to look like that- even if I use daylight. I think many people use macro lenses, special photography light and photoshop to make their photos look perfect and professional- and of course maybe they are more talented I don't know. But I personally prefer "normal" photos because on very professional and heavily photoshopped pictures you can only guess how the make-up could look like in real life lol- same with commercial photos.
Btw. I'm not referring to the photo you posted but to many eye make-up photos I saw on the internet.

A lot of those are probably taken with webcams or high quality cams with digital remote.
