About a month ago a friend of my moms, who is a licensed hairdresser bleached my hair and dyed it a medium brown and now my hair is in horrible condition. I have cut down to only washing it twice a week and using a protein conditioning treatment but it doesn't seem to be helping. When my hair is wet it's somewhat rubbery and will stretch and break. I can't comb through it when it's wet, even just using my fingers rips hair out. What can I do to repair the damage.

Is this the stuff you are talking about Cali? I avoid doing anything with it when it's wet and usually just put it up to avoid damaging it more.

Don't put it up wet either. even if its really really loose, it can still cause damage..so try to just get out of the shower and pat dry with your towel and just leave it. Those treatments look great...if you want something to add to your regimen, look up Alterna Overnight Hair Repair. That's something you could do the night before washing. Just a thought for added help. Good luck!

I had gotten a perm about 2 years ago and it completely damaged my hair :( I mean completely fried my hair. At first I used the L'oreal repair line (yellow and black), specifically the balm. And it helped so much. But my ends were still horrible. I also used coconut oil treatment overnight. It definitely helped but it wasn't enough :( I chopped it off!! But I am so glad because my hair is soft, manageable and hydrated!! But for now don't use any heat products on your hair.

This happened to me before unfortunately I just had to grow it out and chop it all off before my hair returned to its normal healthy self :( sucks n takes time but it will go back to normal if you take good care of it and get it cut more regularly

Thanks ladies!! I will look into all the suggestions y'all had for me! And I didn't realize putting my hair up would cause more damage.

Invest in a wet brush! It will keep you from tearing your hair up more. Frequent haircuts too. Damage can only be concealed not fixed. Damage must be cut out.

I was in this situation when I first went blonde, I didn't want a haircut so I tried hot oils, treatments, conditioning overnight, hair serums and the only way that rubbery feeling went away was with a trim, it depends how far up your hair shaft the damage has been done, I asked for a trim and 20 minutes later she'd hacked my hair off, was so upset I couldn't even stay blonde. I did find that a good hair serum will help make it feel softer but won't actually get rid of the damage and how it feels when it's wet.

Also, don't use a brush on your wet hair, find a wide toothed comb and brush from the ends up towards the roots, let it air dry and put some kind of oil in it to keep the moisture locked in.
