I'm just curious why people wear sheer foundation, doesn't it just make your face look oily? I've never tried it but I always buy my foundation with a matte finish. just wondering what it's like so if you buy sheer let me know!

Sheer and matte are different because sheer describes the coverage not the finish while matte describes the finish and not the coverage. like you can have a sheer matte Foundation it's just two different parts of it.

Sheer is the amount of coverage, and most sheer foundation is used by people with slightly uneven skin but no blemishes. It serves in evening the skin out and giving you that flawless finish. Matte is the oil control, and you can have a sheer matte foundation

I am sorry but Lody you are only partly right. Sheer does refer to coverage; however, matte refers to the finish.
Calling a foundation sheer means that is low coverage. Low coverage means that, for example, if you have imperfections or discoloration on you face, one coat may not cover them. Some sheer foundations are buildable, some are not. Basically sheer foundations allow your skin to kind of "shine through", or at least that is how I would describe it...
Full coverage foundations are the opposites of sheer ones, and they essentially are foundations that more easily cover blemishes, discoloration, and imperfections.
There are around three different finishes when it comes to foundations...
Calling a foundation matte, means that it is a not necessarily flat finish, but rather just a not shiny one. Matte finishes give that smooth, same all over look. They usually have medium to full coverage and last a long time if applied properly. Overall it is a smooth finish with no shiny or glowy spots.
Dewy foundation is technically the opposite, it gives the skin a light shine as if the skin is well moisturized but not greasy. It allows the natural glow of your skin to shine through.
Satin finish foundations are essentially a natural looking finish. They aren't matte but the aren't dewy. It is an in between stage...
Hope the helped! Have a wonderful day and stay gorgeous!!
