My younger sister wants to box dye her hair to a medium brown color. But she has like a really dark brown close to black hair color. How can I lighten it so the hair dye holds on her hair?

Bleach it

For minimum damage use 40 vol developer only. Lifts the hair to a light brown at most. More gentle than bleach but takes longer to process. Make sure to neutralize it with a neutralizing shampoo or conditioner. The hair will not be brassy so she can leave it like that or go other it with the box dye

Thanks Symone. I'll give this a try for sure. I tried coloring her hair once already but the color only took to the top of her hair and the rest hardly has any. She was so bummed out.
