Soo I've always been a nail biter for as long as I can remember(yes I know it's gross, but its a bad habit) and ever since last week I REALLY wanted to grow my nails out, I haven't been biting them for about 5-6 days and most of them have grown about half a mm-1mm which is pretty good there looking pretty good because my nails werent bitten very close to the cuticle.

Basically I want my nails to be a fairly good length and be nic and healthy looking before school starts which is about a week away. So if anybody has any DIY: nail... Anything, or some tips on keeping them healthy let me know in the comments bellow :)
ps. I dont want to have to buy anything for growing my nails UNLESS there is this fool proof nail potion that will grow my nails instantly XD I also live in canada so I don't want to have to order online to get a product that is only available in US stores. :)

Thanks :) http://m.youtube.com/?&client=mv-google&rdm=4nq0fylu6&tsp=1#/profile?user=JustCallMeChrissie

Nail biting is a hard habit to break...but not an impossible one. My daughter is a "recovering nail biter". She bit her nails for years and no brush on nail product worked for her. For the first day, the taste would deter her but then she'd be right back at it. And we've tried all sorts of DIYs, adding cayene to clear polish, garlic, etc...she always bit her nails to nubs (she even bit off acrylic nails). What worked for her were those press-on nails. She applied them with nail glue and trimmed them to just above her finger tips. If she had a rough day at school and bit her nails, she'd just replace the press-ons. It took a few months but she was able to control the urge to bite and her nails are absolutely beautiful. She also took Biotin and pre-natal vitamins that she was able to get over the counter. Her nails grew back very strong and she has to trim them weekly in order to keep them at a manageable length. She's in her second year of college and had a relapse during one of her math courses, but it was short lived. She said what keeps her from biting now is keeping all of her nail polishes on display as a motivation to keep her fingers out of her mouth. She has loads of nail polishes that she keeps on a very lovely wooden shelf in her bedroom and she changes her polish very often (about three times a week). I'm not saying that this is a guaranteed solution for you...I just wanted to share what worked for her.

I too am a recovering nail bitter I have been bite free for 8 months now. Something that will help your nails grow and keep you from biting is the Sally Hansen Growth gel or strengthening gel. You put it on bare nails and it soaks in the nail. Not only does it help them grow and be strong but it tastes awful so you wont want to put your fingers in your mouth. I did this several times a day and that really helped, well that and sheer will power which was hard.

Another thing to try is to take Biotin vitamin supplements, it helps to grow and strengthen nails.

I use Sally hansen nail growth! It really works well! even if i bite my nails, i put this stuff on and in a few days there back to a normal length!

Thanks everyone :) ill try out all of these ideas. Accept for the acrylics because I still haven't bitten my nails at all i just want them to grow more before school starts because I know that if I get really bored in class I'll start to bit them because it's a habit when I'm bored in school.. But if there at a length that I like them and they look healthy i won't want to bite them. Ahah XD thanks though :) I'll surely try the Cayene and clear coat(because I HATE Cayene) and the Sally Hansen nail lengthened and strangthener and possibly the biotin if my parents are fine with it :)

@Jennifer W...that's a great tip about the press on nail polish. My daughter just started her third math course this term and that's her most stressful subject...I'm going to buy her some of those so that hopefully she won't regress to biting this term. Awesome tip!
