I'm dying my hair a nice red but have ZERO idea on how to get to it.
I have dark brown neutral hair & want a warm red undertone to it. Nothing dramatic, just a nice red shine under the sun. :D
I'm looking at Sally's hair dye's & found two that I like:
Ion Color Brilliance Permanent Creme Hair Color
http://www.sallybeauty.com/hair-dye/SBS-305105,default,pd.html?green=568180a0-dfae-44e7-97ed-9442e5b91afc&cm_vc=MYBUYS
and Clairol Professional Liquicolor Light Intense Red
http://www.sallybeauty.com/clairol-haircolor/SBS-320761,default,pd.html
I want to keep my dark shade & don't want to lift the color TOO much - so do I just use a 10% developer? Would it even show a difference in my hair? Or do I just go with a 20% to get the nice true bottle color? (also, which color do you guys like best?)
Please help! I'm so lost!

Avoid using a permanent color; if you hate it, you're stuck with it - and since reds tend to fade down, what you have in 4 weeks won't be the same as the day you color it.
Definitely use a 10 volume; you only want to deposit on top of what you've got. 20 volume will lift before it deposits.
Get your hands on some Redken ShadesEQ if you can - Rocket Fire and Citron are both on the warmer side. And it's semipermanent, so if you aren't happy with the color, it'll wash out over 4 weeks.

If you don't want your hair to lighten don't bleach it. That's also over processing your hair when you don't need to, especially since you want it dark. I agree with Kimberly about the 10 volume. That's all you really need to deposit the color. Since you're going for a warmer tone red you can try to get a red enhancer to make your hair stay or even buy some manic panic red dye afterward for touch ups since it's vegetable dye. You can mix that in with your conditioner and let that sit in your hair to keep your hair a vibrant red since reds tend to fade fast.
