I just got my hair cut pretty short, but I don't want to be constantly straightening it, I have naturally wavy hair but it looks like an afro when i leave it natural- not that thats bad, it's just a little uncontrollable for me. I tried to use hot curlers and it worked but I'de rather not use any heat. So I thought about getting velcro rollers? Has anyone tried them, or has a brand that they like best? I have a bunch of different curlers (the ones you sleep in) and i can't stand them even the soft ones- they drive me nuts all night long. Any suggestions?

I'm mixed with black and white, and I have very curly hair that will be afro-ish if I let it dry naturally as well. I tried velcro curlers a few weeks ago. I had just washed my hair so it was still wet and I left them in while i was getting dressed, doing makeup and getting ready for the day. The result I got was not at all what I expected. My hair was still extremely curly, and maybe even a little bigger than when I usually just put leave in conditioner and brush it out. I don't know if you will get what you're looking for with velcro rollers...But they don't give me straight hair.

Thanks for the info, good to know, I don't necessarily want straight hair from it, just kind of big and curled at the ends, not like crazy curly, did you use a bigger size curler or smaller ones?

usually velcro rollers come with big, medium, small curlers that you use in secession down the length of the head. I find that rollers only work for me as a way to make blowouts and straightened hair wearable the next day; otherwise my hair will go back to being unruly. When I use velcro rollers alone they do not tame my hair but they do give volume.

Velcro rollers work best if you blow dry your hair a little while they're are in. If you just leave them, any loose hairs will frizz or curl up and you'll end up with a mess (if you have naturally curly/wavy hair, that is). Velcro rollers are vented so the air from your drier will circulate through. Blow the hair in the direction of the roller so your hair will end up super smooth.

@Laura. I used mostly medium ones, because it's a set my mom has had since she was a teenager, and there were only like 2 small ones and 1 large one left in the bag.

when I use velcro rollers, it's typically after i've blow dried my hair about 80% then I put them in and let them dry the rest of the way...sometimes when i'm in a rush i'll blow dry them while they're in my hair. I find that velcro rollers work the best when the hair is already warm, i've never had success with just puttting them in and letting it dry.
