So, I'm in the market for a new flat iron, and have no clue where to stat looking for the right one. What would you recommend?

Well, most people would probably recommend the KQC, Chi, or GHD. If you don't want to spend a fortune on a flat iron though, I would recommend this one by Remington

I have straight hair so I think pretty much any flat iron would work for me, but my cousin has super curly hair and this made her hair pin straight. :)

Chi and GHD are good. I owned a Chi but I prefer the one I have now over it. I use my Ti Touch Titanium and it's my favorite I've ever used. It's pretty expensive though. My second favorite was my Fhi (not Chi). I got that one at Target I think for like $75

I have had both a CHI and GHD... the CHI did a great job, but it snagged my long hair a lot and I always had a strange burnt plastic smell to my hair when I finished. I upgraded to a GHD - and same, if not better ironing quality, doesn't snag and no smell. I also love that it beeps to let you know when it's ready to be used, and the automatic 30 min. safety shut off. =)

I always recommend the CHI, I love it! My hair couldn't get any straighter! My hair is naturally curly.

Remmington T-Studio... my hair takes a lot of heat to straighten and that works like a charm!

I use an iCreate Magic iron; it's got wide-set ridges on one side of the plate housing that helps keep your hair from getting snagged. It's important to use a comb as a guide when you're ironing your hair though, otherwise you could be flat-ironing over snags & tangles.

I definitely agree with Erica H that Remington link she out up is the one I have- I bought it about a month ago because my last one broke and I am totally in love with this Remington! It gives you shine, super easy to use, has temperature settings up to 410, and best of all it heats up in 30 seconds!

I have a Solia right now, but used to have a CHI (the Solia is a little cheaper). They are both good and pretty comparable, imo. http://www.folica.com/tools/flat-irons/solia-tourmaline-ceramic-ion-flat-iron-one-and-one-quarter-inch-plus-free-heat-proof-pouch I have also tried Remington, which worked pretty well also

I have the original CHI, and I mean the real one that came out like 4 years ago, I bought it when it first came out, and it still works like the first time I used it! They aren't made the same as they used to be, they are so cheap now!

Thanks for all the replies. Another question: Does hair type really matter in terms of a flat iron?
Aug 1, 2011
Ashley G.
well if your unlucky like me with weirdly thick hair, you're going to want to use one that heats up higher, I've used several flat irons before, one from Walmart (which i think destroyed my hair), a few random ones... then my CHI and nothing has made my hair look better or feel better then my CHI. It's really hard to keep my hair straight, or curly because of the amount of hair that I have so I tend to go for the more expensive hair tools, I find that they work a lot better.
