I would not recommend Chic Studios NYC because their teachers are not the best. Though I'm sure they are good at doing makeup, none of them seem to actually be successful in the industry. Look for a school with teachers that have success in a field of artistry such as film, television, or print work. None of the teachers seem to have gotten past the building portfolio stage of their career. MUD is a REALLY good school, but is very expensive. If you are really serious about makeup it is worth it.

One more thing is that the link to Kett isn't actually a school; it's a brand of makeup. Hope you find a good school!

Hi Jamie,
I was just wondering how you received your information regarding the Chic Studios instructors?
All instructors have over 8 years of real, valid experience, from being agency represented, working Fashion Week every season with major designers, as well as television and movie sets.
If you have any questions regarding their work, don't hesitate to ask :)
I have been with Chic since before it began, and we made a successful effort to create an amazing curriculum with just as amazing instructors. And unlike other places, our instructors have been and are here long-term -- chances are if you took any program since we opened, you will see the same faces :)
I encourage you, and Ivelisse (hi!), to check out out our Facebook fanpage at http://www.facebook.com/chicstudiosmakeup and see our instructors, and students, in action, as well as feel free to post and ask for testimonials! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
But as always, look into all options, because you never know what will be right for you until you check them out! Researching is key in the industry and in life. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to come see Chic and form your own opinions :)
Thanks ladies, have a great day and a successful career!
Regards,
Christina

Hi all I am aware that this thread is from 2011 but as a former grad of chic studios I would like to say that I highly don't reccomend them to anyone considering attending a makeup school in nyc. They fill you up with so much hope and make you believe that they truly care about you and your education which is truly a lie. After graduating they never contact to see how youre doing and to see if you have made any progress in there school. In fact over the summer they held there anniversary party to which YouTubers were invited as well as grads and guess what the youtubers 98% who never attended the school recieved full sized products while the grads who have spent thousands of dollars just received sample sized products which is very shady I must say. I will also say that on there facebook page they only ask the grads who reccomend the school to write on the note pads that they post on both there facebook and Instagram "I love chic best experience ever". My graduating class was never asked to write anything none of us and we were a pretty large group. I'm pretty sure they were afraid we would be truthful and blunt with our experiences.

Hi Laura,
CHICSTUDIOS takes pride in ensuring graduates are happy with their education and their experience at the school and after graduation.
I checked my records, as I am the school director and could not find your name, could if be listed as another name, as you mentioned you are a graduate? However I sincerely apologize that you have been let down by us, and I hope we can make it up to you!
We have hundreds of graduates that are a part of the CHICPro Community, which we post gigs, hiring fairs, job opportunities, networking events and more, DAILY. As a graduate if you are not apart of this, please let me know.
As you mentioned our 5-Year Anniversary Party, and being disappointed by the gift bags- we handed out bags to all attendees, which were generous sponsored products from amazing brands. We created as many gift bags as we had products for. This event was free, filed with music, food and drinks. I sincerely apologize for your dissatisfaction.
The Sticky notes you also mentioned, we ask our students to share their thoughts. These are not handpicked. These are direct words from actual students. We post them all. We only started doing this in 2014 so likely if you graduated before that, that is the only reason you would not have been asked. This is not a preferred request it's an honest and true one
I hope we can make it up to you, your dissatisfaction as we genuinely never set out to disappoint anyone! :)
Regards,
Christina, School Director at CHICSTUDIOS NYC

Jordan S.
Hi All!
My name is Jordan and I have only good things to say about Chic Studios. I have not taken a course personally, but have friends that have and they have only said great things.
I have also gone to their events and Open Houses which are really great if you are an aspiring makeup artist. I am not able to study to become an MUA at this time, but have gone to these events with my friends who have taken the course. I was very inspired seeing instructors teach workshops for various makeup looks. They really know their stuff! Everyone there is so welcoming and sweet and I really hope to take a course in the future. It's so cool to learn from people who have lots of experience in this field and have gone to fashion week and worked on big brands and models.
Looking forward to being a part of Chic Studios in the future!!

I think that CHICSTUDIOS is a fantastic school for anyone who wants to become a Professional Makeup Artist.
The classes start with the basics, to make sure that each student has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of makeup and then sessions progress to more advanced topics and even include tips on how to promote yourself as a freelance makeup artist.
The instructors have a tremendous amount of experience, each working with major brands and traveling to do work of their own for Fashion Week events all over the world.
I receive at least 4+ emails per month as part of the CHIC Pro Community. These emails include networking events (hosted by CHIC with other brands such as NARS, bareMinerals or Stila Cosmetics), freelance gigs (for brides. photo shoots, etc...), as well as hiring fairs (with companies such as Sephora, MAC, etc...).
Another big bonus in attending CHIC is that the makeup kit (brushes and SOOO many products from SOOO many brands) is included in tuition, so you are literally ready to work the day after graduations from CHICSTUDIOS. Plus, since they incorporate different brands into the kit, you learn how to work with different types of products.
