Hey gorgeous :) So I thought it'd be interesting to create a topic where everyone shares products that you heard lots of rave about (through YT, BL or your friends and stuff) but you ended up not liking or it didn't really live up to your expectations. I haven't really had this happen to me as far as I can remember (although it's late and I'm tired. I'll write it in a comment if I end up remembering) but go ahead and post below :]

Ugh... don't get me started!! [TOO LATE!] XD
1.) Coastal Scents brushes: "!@#$ you sponsored youtube Gurus for LYING for profit!" - sheds, smells awful, scratchy... enough said.
2.) NARS Orgasm/Laguna Duo: *runs from shoe being thrown @ self* too shimmery. NARS blushes in general break me out.
3.) Urban Decay Naked: *hides forever from fans that love it* - not bad for beginners, but needs more mattes. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.
4.) MAC 187: gah, splotchy? My Sephora airbrush #55 was HG until I found the Sigma F80 to replace it. 187 doesn't have enough coverage and sheds... no bueno.
5.) Bare Minerals foundations in EVERY formula: I really wanted to try mineral makeup since it was so quick to apply, but EVERY one of their formulas made my skin feel tight, dry and itchy... it even accentuated dry patches I never even knew I had until application. Boo. Love their new sifter jars w/ the matte formula, but what good is the jar if you can't even use what's inside???
6.) Coastal Scents 88 palettes [or any palettes for that matter]: sorry, some people manage to make it work; but I had the shimmer, matte, and neutral palette... all were garbage to me in texture. Chalky, hard to blend, poor quality. I feel they were only good for patting down color, but fall-out was ridiculous. You always see these in Guru vanity/collection videos in their least used makeup drawers. Large palettes are fun to play with, but I'd rather get the ELF 100 palette during their 50% off sale and save $$$ and get the same quality, if not better.
I'll stop now before I write a book. =P

NARS the Multiple in Orgasm! I didn't dislike it, but it honestly wasn't worth my $40 :/
Also the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua...I liked it at first and I do like it for summer, but everybody talks so much about it, i was expecting a LOT more. Still a great foundation though, just too much hype

L'oreal Linear Intense (did I spell it right??) - the one that was compared to Lancome Artliner.
I have used both of these ... the packaging and felt tip are the same but the L'Oreal liner is just a big disappointment to me because it wasn't even black! Well it is, but just not super deep black. There was nothing else that I really didn't like so much except that the color seems watered down. If you want a really deep black liner, this is NOT the one!!!

LOL, I posted this one over in products & brands the other day: L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes. Hated the smelly, wet formula and the weak brush.
And I second Soma on the Coastal Scents palettes - and I'll add BH palettes to that as well. I hate the lack of pigmentation, and they are hard to blend. While I like variety and wear a different color scheme every day, there are some colors in those palettes that I never touched - should have just stuck to purchasing individual colors.

Deana - AHH! I thought I was the only one!Yes, now that I'm remebering I used to have the loreal million lashes and I hated it! I really liked the formula (i have thick lashes so wet formulas work great on me) but the brush SUCKED and it smelt soooooooo baaaaddddd! I threw it away after a month. I should've gotten another one, because i wasted my 5 bucks on that!

Dang I was thinking about buying those Coastal Scents/BH cosmetics pallets yall all just dissed haha. So yall think the ELF 100 one is better to purchase?

Thank you!!! I keep reading all these rave reviews about it and can't figure out why, lol. You're lucky you have thick lashes; my little thin lashes wilted with the wet formula.

Urban decay Naked pallet. Expensive & nothing new.

Hmm I can't think of too many now but the one I remember is the Maybelline Falsies mascara. It was getting mixed reviews but a lot of people seemed to like it. Personally it did not work out for me

I quite dislike the Naked Palette. Too expenssive for colours that every brand carries. I ended selling mine a week after I got it.
@Erica persoanlly, I love my 88 and 120 palettes, i find the pigmnetation quite good as well as the textures.

Saphora brand sapling brush -crappy an it turned blue every time i washed it
an the brush is way to big for your face you cant even blend the fibers are way too loose so i can't blend again
matte to shimmer 88 pallet - i should of went for the shimmer one the matte colors need a good white base but the red an greens an few blues are good

Erica: I think the ELF palette [cheaper alternative w/ coupon code, I got mine for $5 after an online coupon code] is about the same in quality as the CS palette - mattes are useless, some of the shimmer colors are useful... but you're probably getting a palette choc full of colors, but you'll only be able to use about 1/3 of the colors [if you're lucky]. It looks pretty on my vanity, but that's about it. Fun to apply makeup on the bf's little sister, since it's a sheer wash VS. a dense pigmentation [she's young, and I don't want to age her w/ caked on makeup] - and I'll point out what I noticed based on youtube videos on these palettes:
The tutorials w/ great looks w/ the palette only uses 1 -2 colors at the most, and if so, they're SHIMMER shades... not mattes. Otherwise, they'll supplement the rest of the look with shadows, bases and pigments from OTHER brands - which is why many look great. On their own, I hated it and swapped it away in less than a week, and at that time, I only owned 8 MAC shadows. Even as a makeup noobie, I could rationalize the difference. [I was completely suckered into purchasing because I was trying to start out on a budget] I figured out later I would rather buy less w/ higher quality and price then spend on mediocre in bulk.
Again, it works for some people. That's just my own experience as to why I dislike it so much. Pigmentation swatched on your finger is different than the skin on your lid. CS colors swatch beautifully on your hand, but def. apply less dense on the lid.

The hard candy concealer palette. It was horrible, sheer, chalky, yuck, I returned it after a week haha.

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original. Creased on me within hours. I don't go out to buy something because it's hyped up. I actually tried UDPP with the mini one that came in my Naked palette. I actually love my Naked palette! lol

@Soma Coastal Scents brushes are actually Crown Brushes. I actually like the few I own by Crown Brush, but they're probably a hit & miss.

Tt would have to be skincare products, although I can't think of a specific one offhand. I remember getting things because some YouTube gurus raved about them saying they clear up acne and made their skin feel amazing blah blah...but they did nothing for me. lol. Also Two Faced Shadow Insurance. While its not bad (and I'll definitely finish it up before getting another product), I find it too oily...but a lot of people seem to really love it.
@Soma aw Coastal Scents brushes (aka Crown Brushes) are really good! You just have to get the right ones. Any of the synthetic ones (which are towards the end of their brushes page) are really great...they're super dense and soft and definitely the best brushes I've ever used :)

Lash blast mascara, everyone loves it but I dont! It dries out after a week, causes flaking and it makes my lashes break off. *thumbs down*

NARS Orgasm. Did not understand the hype, the gold flecks aren't good news especially when you have oily skin.

Honestly, I think Lashblast is WAY overrated. It was my first mascara when I started with cosmetics so naturally I loved it, but now that I've shopped around I really don't understand why it's so popular. It flakes easily, it doesn't give me good separation and it just doesn't give my lashes that nice fanned out look like my Estee Lauder sumptuous does.

The UD Primer Potion in Eden- It creased on me sooooo fast! Which is annoying,
Bare Essentials Foundations in both formulas- The original made my face very shiny, very fast. The matte broke me out...:/

Ooh, this is a great topic! I despise the Coastal Scents 88 palette, for all the reasons that Soma basically listed lol. I also cannot stomach the NARS Turkish Delight lip gloss. I hate the way it feels on my lips and I hate how it applies streakily, and the color looks horrible on me! And that is all I can think of right now, I'm sure I'll be able to come up with more at some point today lol.

I love reading your entries! I feel like I'm quite the opposite though... if everyone raves about something, I usually assume it's overrated, because one product can't work that well for everyone, right?
But anyway, after thinking about it for an entire year, I gave in and bought the Naked palette - mostly just to see what the fuss is all about. And imagine my surprise when it exceeded all my expectations! While I do agree that some of the colors in it are dupe-able, I think that the formula of the UD shadows makes it worth the extra money. They are just so easy to blend, and show up on my lids pretty much exactly like they look in the pan, which I haven't experienced with a lot of other shadows....
About the L'Oréal Volume Million Lashes (yes, over here it has a slightly different name, but it's the same one). I also hated it when I first got it... I used it a couple of times and then I just stopped using it, cause the formula was much too wet and difficult to work with (I have super straight lashes so the wet formula made the curl I'd created using eyelash curlers disappear straight away). But a few days ago, I basically just thought I'd try it one more time before throwing it away - and now I like it! It's probably because it has dried up a lot by now ;) But it's still overrated,
Oh, the most overrated product I've ever tried is probably the Diorshow mascara. OMG, it's awful! The formula is too wet - it doesn't give my lashes much volume or length at all - and the wand it way too big! It's like trying to apply mascara with a toilet brush... ugh. I hate it. Worst product I ever bought. And actually, I've tried it twice. Not because I wanted to, you see, but because the first one I bought broke. The little rubber thingy that stops too much product from coming out fell in (yes, into the mascara) pretty much straight away, so the first one was impossible to use. But I hoped that that one was just a bad one, so I went back and exchanged it for a new one in good condition, and although the second one wasn't broken, the formula still sucked. It really did nothing for my lashes except make them darker - but any cheap mascara does that...

ELF shadows (mainly their palettes, their minerals are okay). ALL of the light colors are chalky and not pigmented. Granted most of the palettes are $5 but lesson learned after owning several (probably about $100 worth) is that every single one is garbage and I want my money back.
ELF lip glosses, VERY sticky. Never again am I buying their glosses. The lipsticks are fine but the glosses are crap.
ELF mascara. Granted I paid only $1 but still I go through a tube once a month because the mascara dries out in to a giant clump ball. I rather spend $5 on a Rimmel Mascara and get six months out of it than $1 and get only one month out of ELF's.
Flirt eyeshadows, I'm blanking on the guru who did a look with it and a giveaway but I ended up buying the palette (under $15) and absolutely HATE it. I've used it only twice. Some of the colors are nice and some are yuk.
I have three Coastal Scents palettes and found all three to be okay. Nothing extraordinary.
ANYTHING by Lancome is garbage to me. Michelle Phan gets overpaid to promote that stuff. Thankfully I never bought any Lancome and always tried it at the store since it's overpriced.
