I have warm Medium-Dark Brown Hair and I like to dye it very dark brown-black. I really like L'oreal Feria brand hair color because it leaves my hair super shiny and soft, but in the past when I used it the color faded pretty fast, although I haven't tried the black ones yet. I've tried Revlon and one of the foam ones and not only did they fade quickly but they also stripped my hair. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what at-home hair color to get or to stay away from?

I would recommend going to Sally's Beauty Supply and trying out the Clariol Professional line. I've been using their hair colors for over two years and I love it. Gives me amazing pigmentation in my hair and leaves a nice shine. It's super affordable and you don't have to worry about product being old (on the shelf for too long). Of course there is a bit of fading but thats with every hair color. You just have to know how to main tain it. Using the right shampoo and conditioner that is color safe.

Thanks Linda, I never thought to look in Sally's for their haircolor. I figured it would be expensive but I see now that I was totally wrong. Thanks again, I'll look into it more.

Sally's is LESS expensive than a kit. Right now the small bottles of developer are under $2 and a bottle of dye is around $3.50. If you have longer hair you'll need at least two bottles which is definitely cheaper than a kit. Of course don't forget the squeeze bottle (about $2) but the developer you can hold on to for down the road and same with the squeeze bottle, both are reusable if you want to touch up your hair down the road.

Sally has great colors I haven't tried a dark dye from there. But if your looking for a drugstore brand I would suggest the L'oreal Sublime Mousse, the colors are dark. But it actually was a risk because it came out close to a blackish brown more than dark brown with just one bottle for my mid-waist length hair. Its been 3 months since and no fading along with la bella color shampoo - no fading, and my golden brown dye from my previous hair coloring hasn't showed. And when I was finished my hair felt really smooth. If your going for black-brown get the Purest Darkest Brown instead of the Pure Brown

black hair dye will not fade because it will Never leave your hair (unless you strip it with bleach) if your problem is mostly just color fading then instead of throwing on another layer of permanent dye (which is damaging) once your color begins to fade, go and get a demi-interment dye from the drug store like Garnier HerbaShine and apply to your hair. it last about 16 or more washes and leaves your hair much softer then permanent dye. Also I really recommend you buy some color lock shampoo (you can find pretty much anywhere) and only wash your hair about three or four times a week.

I love Garnier Nutrisse for any dark haircolors! inexpensive and especially if you only need one bottle. The color is really concentrated and your hair will definitely take the color in about 7 to 8 minutes tops. You can keep it on longer as the same time the box says, it's long lasting and depending on what color revival shampoo you use, for some reason after a while the color actually turns more vibrant than the first use and has some highlight to it if you went from a brown with reddish tones to a deep chocolate haircolor. I haven't tried any other color as far as reddish tones or coppers but i would like to. I definitely dont do blond at home since i'm a natural brunette, i'll leave that to the pros.
