Have you all heard about the two bills congress is proposing? The proposed SOPA _and_ PIPA are causing website black outs from sites trying to raise awareness about these bills. What does this mean for beautylish.com users?? Well for one it could shut down your youtube accounts, blogs or websites!!!! Seriously.

Check out Chris Heald's article at mashable.com to get more insight. http://mashable.com/2012/01/17/sopa-dangerous-opinion/

Write to your state senators and sign the petitions to help stop these bills from passing!

/bump this is important ladies and gents! Be sure to read up on it so you know what's going on

*Bump*!

I have also "blacked out" my blog for the day in protest of SOPA/PIPA. The Mashable article listed above (Why SOPA is Dangerous) is probably one of the best sources I've read that breaks down exactly what it is and why its problematic...everyone definitely needs to give it a read!

Very important stuff here. And if you don't live in the States, do NOT think for one second that this will not affect you, because it will. SOPA/PIPA will affect everyone, worldwide.

In the US: Contact your reps in Congress.
Outside the US: Contact the State Department, maybe even try your country's ambassador to the US, and ask them to speak out.

Kudos to all of you who are doing your bit! :)

Yay! The petition caught the president's attention! But keep updated on this cause! It's not going away that easily...

Here is a big one some cosmetic companies are supporting SOPA
-Estée Lauder Companies.
-L’Oreal
-Revlon
I'm going to think twice before these companies get my money or reviews.

@Jaclyn S. Here's a good video from youtube that goes into a bit of detail about it. Pretty much if this were to pass it would allow the government to censor what you see on the internet and shut down any sites that have users that violate copyrights, the bill in its current form is way too broad and wouldn't actually effect Pirates too much because they'll just move once they get shut down

Re: Ashley K. That's a good summary!

I think it's also important to point out that why these bills are so significant is because they will affect every site that runs on user submitted content. For a specific example, even though Beautylish identifies where they're getting some of their images from in articles etc, if beautylish didn't actually take the photo or create the image, under these bills, they would be in violation of copyright infringement and could be shut down.

@Jaclyn S. The links in my original post will really explain it well. Check out the one by Chris Heald from Mashable.

The cosmetic companies have a valid point because counterfeiting.and selling fake goods with a trademark like one of their brand names or logos is trademark infringement. But here is the thing they make money off of what we do here on beautylish. We watch the videos we advertise the products and we go right out to the counters on buy the products. I know many people that have so called makeup parties selling artificial MAC and other brands and that;s the part I don't agree with. It's something that has been happening for years it started with alcohol and handbags. I hope this doesn't get passed this is a new generation and this is how we express ourselves.
