I am so tired of shaving the girly bits but I am also too broke to pay someone to wax. Anyone do it at home themselves and have tips/tricks? I had a friend try it and she ripped some of her skin off *yikes!* and now I am afraid. Any ideas would be great thanks!

No one has experience with this? Not even a little?

I've done the at home kit with blue wax and the help of a girlfriend, but that went awfully wrong, and tore some skin in the process... NEVER AGAIN!
If ur really intent on doing so, look up sugaring. There's no heat involved, so less risk of burning or tearing skin. I would still go to a professional at least once to see how the process is done, and even then, it's still trial and error.
Good luck, and be careful!

Okay, I'm going to be completely honest. It's better left to a professional. I've tried doing that at home before many times, and it takes too long and is way to painful doing it by yourself, not to mention messy. If you are really set on doing it by yourself at home, these are the few tips I have to offer. Make sure the area is completely dry. Wet skin is easier to wax off, which is no fun. Have baby oil on hand, the wax gets everywhere, and nothing gets the wax to come off better than baby oil. If you're buying a home kit, I would suggest buying extra strips, because those run out quicker than expected. Lastly, keep the layer of wax rather thin. You want to apply enough to cover the skin and the hairs, but not so much that you have a goopy mess. This will only end in a painful situation that won't get rid of any hair.

I am a qualified beautician and I have to agree with Anna, you really need to stretch the skin to prevent brusing and tearing which is a 2 person job lol. xxx

I used to religiously get my waxes done professionally but honestly the first time I bruised myself. However now I kind of got the hang of it but still I don't do nowhere as good of a job that the pro's do. I actually find it even less painful when they do it and more like TORTURE when I do it lol.

I meant to say I bruised myself the first time I did my own wax.

I do my own waxing at home but understand I have had professional training. As someone else mentioned above it is a two person job.
