I just recently went natural.. meaning i cut off all my chemically straightened hair and now rocking my natural curly hair. so i was wondering for those who are still getting perm/relaxers why are you doing it and have you ever thought about rocking your natural hair? and for those who are natural when did you go natural? did you big chop? how long have you been natural? whould you go back to permed/ relaxers? do you love your natural hair?

i just want to get opinions on people eho are relaxed/permed and people who are natural

Oh i know i didnt mean it in a bad way i thaught you looked familiar thats all!! You look great girl rock it!!

I'm natural & have been for about 4yrs now, but I straighten my hair.... often! Sometimes my naturally curly hair is more difficult to maintain versus my straightened hair. In the summer, though it's easier to stay curly because I sweat in my head and it curls up anyway! Natural hair ain't for everybody... sometimes it's just TOO hard to manage, ya know?!

Yeah... lol.. I totally just answered like I WASN'T natural... idk... I guess that would be my reasoning if I still used the creamy crack.

I am a cosmetologist and I truly love when clients decide to go natural! Women with textured hair to embrace their natural beauty. Relaxers/perms are very dangerous chemicals that yea, even if it makes it "easier" for styling...it's still a harmful chemical that you are drenching your hair with about every 6 weeks. I am proud of you girl! And for all those girls that can't decide whether they want to go natural..go watch "good hair" when the can melts lol

I used to chemically relax my hair about 6 years ago. One day i discovered the hot irons and decided to cut my hair little by little because i was afraid to just chop it all off. To have relaxed hair is a pain in the bum, costs money that i rather save & i couldnt rock the curls when i wanted.
I used to live in new york and always wore my hair straight during the cold weather, but during summer i always kept it curly because its impossible to maintain straight with the humidity and sweat.
2 years ago i moved to fl where it is always hot and humid ( but i love it) and always wear my curls. One time someone mentioned KERATIN treatmenst to control friz and what not.. All i can say is worst choise ive ever made in my life ( and i have made many lol) Keratin treatments totatlly kill the waves or your hair, its like arelaxer.. Keratin is the devil
After that i was so sad i chopped the whole thing, grew it back, went blond, damaged my hair with excessive ironing. so 2 months ago i cut it all off again.
I love my natural crazy curls and will NEVER again chop it off put nasty chemicals on it.

Sorry for the long story.

because my hair is so frizzy. i'd leave it alone if it were just "wavy", but nooooooo. it's frizzy, it's a tragedy. my hair is like Shakespeare. besides, my hair would look so awful if i insisted on getting this hair cut i've been dying to get (in the picture) without getting it permed first. i'd never be able to pull it off without getting a chemical perm beforehand. and that stuff schtinks! i can't remember whether it was L'Oréal or Makarizo, but it smelled terrible. :(

I stopped using relaxers around the end of 2005/start of 2006 and did a full transition, that took a few years. Just kept trimming the ends every few months when I would do twists. I do use heat on occasion, but I haven't used relaxers since and I don't imagine I will again because I prefer the versatility of natural hair.

I sure do love it.. despite taking 20 some odd years to figure it all out.  LOL

I personally get relaxers in my hair because it's so much easier for me to deal with. I stretch my relaxers out a lot, so I'm not relaxing my hair every 6-8 weeks. My longest stretch right now is 6 months and I couldn't be happier with my hair. When I was younger, I had my natural hair from 5-8 grade. It may be because I was younger, but I had no idea what to do with my hair that resembled sheep's wool when wet and I always got teased for it. My hair used to break combs and was so very hard to manage. Would I ever go natural? Maybe later on in life; but for right now, I'm about making sure my hair is healthy, whether it's relaxed or natural.

I get relaxers. I begged my mother to give me a kiddie perm after continuously burning my ears with the hot comb. I think my first relaxer was age 7. I have nothing against going natural or staying relaxed. I choose to stay relaxed because I have been relaxed for so long and I would like to work on growing my hair out that way first. I have been reading up on how to take special care of my hair and retain length and I would like to see it through.

Someone made a comment on Youtube that relaxers were old school and everyone should go natural. I believe that if you are going to go natural you need to have a reason. Don't just go natural because everyone else is doing it. Same goes for getting relaxers, weaves, cuts, color, etc. My philosophy is do what I want to do with my hair when I want to do it because hair always grows back.

Thinks for posing this question.

My last relaxer was maybe 2 or 3 years ago and I got it because I was living by the beach. The air was so much more humid than I was used to and I had to straoghten my hair a few times a day to keep it straight. I never really knew how to wear my hair when it was natural so I just decided to relax it. Once I was done with college and moved to the desert, my hair was constantly breaking off. I never did a big chop, just stopped getting relaxers. Now my hair is 100% virgin again but I still rarely wear it natural. I'm not quite sure how to tame the frizz just yet or a curly style that works for me.

I just recently started putting a relaxer in my hair when being natural started becoming a trend. I'm 22 & been natural 95% of my life. I decided to put a relaxer in my hair because even though my hair is naturally curly & works well with curly products, my hair is naturally thin & no style I tried would work. Being relaxed is much more easier for me when I don't have weave in.

Like stated before, natural hair isn't for everyone & I'm definitely one of those people.

I have been natural for 6 years :). I would never go back to perms! Its just too much of a hassle for me. There are too many rules for relaxed hair that doesn't apply to natural hair. I let my relaxed hair grow out for a year and then did the big chop which left my hair up to my chin. I can go to the salon and still receive that relaxed look with just a wash and set. I also straighten my own hair when I am in the mood. I loveeeeeee my natural curly locks :)

The best decision I ever made in regards to my hair was leaving the relaxers alone. They did nothing but damage my hair in the long run. Yes, it does take more work to maintain a natural 'do but the end result is so pretty. I do flat iron from time to time and after the last flat iron job I decided to leave that alone as well because when I went back curly my hair lacked moisture and it felt like straw. I get more compliments now as a natural than I did when it was straight. Once you go natural you never go back.

I've been natural for about 3 years now and I love it. I never did the big chop; Instead, I jst grew it out with weave and everytime my mom took my weave out, we cut off a few inches of the processed hair. I love being natural because my hair is healthier and back to being thick like it used to be. I have been straightening my hair a lot, about one every two weeks, but for the next two months I plan on just wearing my hair natural to keep heat off of it and avoid damage. Good luck on your journey!

I just recently got a touch up and I absolutely love it! Lol. It's just what works for ME. A lot of people experience a lot of damage with relaxers but I have no issues. I relax twice a year and make sure to stay on top of my deep conditioning and moisturizing and sealing to keep my hair healthy and long. I considered going natural but it's just too much right now and my natural hair is RIDICULOUSLY thick. Like my roots can make their own personal Afro inside of one LOL. Relaxing cut down a lot of time and a lot of maintenance for me. I can wash my hair, let it air dry and then bun without spending hours properly detangling, flat ironing my edges, or caking on the product in an attempt to lay down my frizzy edges. I love my pretty curlies but relaxing them a bit makes everything so much easier

I decided to go natural because ever since my first perm (10 years old) my hair has fallen out. I got fed up and decided to go natural. I've been transitioning with braids (yarn) for five months now. I'll big chop next year in January.
