I've been wanting to try hair masks, and I figured I would take the cheap route (lol). But not just that it's cheap, I've heard that homemade ones are better for your hair anyways. I use leave in conditioner everyday, and use argan oil every time I get out of the shower. But my hair still needs a little more TLC. So what are the best recipes? (please, no exotic ingredients. I wouldn't have the first clue as to where the hell to buy them! >.< Like, no starfruit or macadamia nut, or something weird like that. Just basic things like olive oil or strawberries, lol)

Starfruit is available in almost all grocery stores now a days but it's not exactly cheap. lol

You could always do the mayo route but make it with homemade mayo instead. You'll need to blend 1 cup olive oil with 1 egg and blend until it looks like mayo. Apply to hair, wait 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.

I do a mixture of straight up organic oils that includes sweet almond, apricot, castor oil, and sometimes olive oil and a some sweet orange essential oil! I either heat it up until it's warm (not super hot) and leave it in then wash it out or if I"m in a little bit of a rush I put it in my hair at the start of a shower, do the rest of my shower routine, then wash it out at the very end. Wash it out with an SLS-free shampoo of course ;) Works like a charm and I have suuuuuuper thick, textured black hair!

All or most of those oils are sold at my local health food stores and even my grocery store (though I'm picky so I typically go to specialty stores ;)). But even 1 or a couple of those oils would be great! Also, if you want to CLARIFY your hair use Apple Cider Vinegar before washing your hair with an SLS-free shampoo and conditioner! That's available at any grocery store in the oil and salad dressing area :)

Righty oh, thankyou! Definitely something I'll try. I'm allergic to Apricots, so not that of course. But I'll try the others! ^.^

Good luck! Just make sure you shampoo the oil out after haha. You should get decent results though ;)

How long should I leave the oil in? O.o Yeah, I'm kind of nervous. I've never used oil in my hair before... Well, except argan oil. But that isn't really oily. :P

I'd do 30-45 minutes if you have the time for a really good conditioning! If you don't have that long, just do it at the beginning of a shower and then wash it out at the end. It works super well, you just have to make sure you wash your hair like normal with shampoo and conditioner at the end ;)

I have the time. ^.^ Thanks so much! I'm crossing my fingers it won't break me out. :P I know that sweet almond oil is just good for wavy hair, which I have. I also have heard that castor oil helps your hair grow like crazy! Which I'm totally looking forward to! If only I can find some... Probably in the pharmacy at walmart, it I'm lucky. haha And I can probably find the almond oil at my local health food store... And I also want to try Lavender Oil... :/ Sounds like a plan! (Happy New Years by the way!!!)

Mayo in your hair my sound nasty but the mixture Yasmin mentioned does wondersssss. The protein from the egg & mayo makes your hair stronger, shinier & you'll see a difference immediately.

I buy mine from natural stores, but I've seen some great brands of oils (including castor oils) at chains like Vitamin World and even drugstores! If you don't mind buying online, drugstore.com has Heritage oils (a pretty good brand): http://www.drugstore.com/heritage-store-castor-oil/qxp319506?catid=153245

My hair grows way too fast as it is, but it should definitely moisturize hair enough to keep it from getting too brittle and breaking, which will definitely help hair "grow" faster! Good luck ;) Let me know how it goes!
