I just braved Walmart at night and I was really disgusted when I saw this girl literally opening up lipstick tubes and glosses and sampling them. I couldn't hold my tongue and I told her very nicely that what she was doing was absolutely disgusting. So it had me thinking....what is your pet peeve when you go make-up shopping?

Mine is the same! I hate when I find the last of something and it has someone's fingerprints all over it! GAH! I wish they had more testers available at drugstores so people can just be happy with messing with those!

girls at sephora who use mascara from the wand and pump it a bunch of times thinking it brings out more product... URGH.

I can't stand when SA's follow you around the store... I know it's your job, but people aren't always good at judging people's comfort levels when greeting 5xs in the first 10 min. - it makes me feel like they think I'm a shoplifter when I obviously am not. =\
I also don't like when they try to up sell me when I know better to do my research when shopping. I don't need junk to help them hit sales goals... I get this often at department store counters. I ESPECIALLY hate when one SA is helping me and another will attempt to blatantly steal their hard earned commission by offering to ring me up. Do they think I don't know they're being shady to their co-workers?! This happened when I bought a Marc Jacobs bag from Saks... So sad!

I dislike it when people come up to me and want to be like "oh can i help you with something" only because they sometimes will follow up with talking about new products and trying to sell something and I'm hard of hearing, so chances are I'm not really going to understand them and I'll be standing there awkwardly nodding and smiling. Although I really liked one girl that worked at the JCSephora because she seemed to catch on quickly when she noticed I was looking at her lips every time she talked to me, hahaha. I haven't seen her in months though. So sad.
I always feel like I have to rush at Bath and Body Works, haha. Those employees will watch you like a hawk.

All of these reasons is the reason I mostly do my shopping online, but sometimes I venture out and actually shop at physical stores, but then all those things that that really urke me, seem to happen when I decide to shop at the store...

Shelley i would have been SO happy to see you do that, I hate when you go in and everything has been used, or seals have been broken, its so maddening. ESPECIALLY, in products that are more or less limited edition, hard to find, etc. so so so annoying!
I've never actually seen anyone do that before, but I ALWAYS pick at least ONE item up that has been used in some way, I hate it.

I hate being followed around and nagged nonstop and finding a product I want to buy and seeing that it's been used... and it's the last one left in stock. lol

I always get followed around in Victoria's Secret and it pisses me off. When I'm shopping with my boyfriend they never leave us alone because we don't look like the typical people to shop there. He has long hair and piercings, and every time we go he is an absolute drag because he is treated like a shoplifter. and I don't know why they follow me around, because I don't look weird or sketchy.. I don't mind being greeted at the door and notified of sales, but I hate when I blatantly ignore them and they keep following me around telling me about everything I pick up.

I love the deals you can snag at Walmart but I hate how messy the cosmetic aisle always is. The one I go to is next to my work and the only Walmart in a college town so tbh lower income people and students go there and test products leaving it a mess! It's gross and they never seem to be in stock it annoys me when I am trying to shop! But the one near my Dad's is always nice, stocked, and spotless it just annoys me that I have to drive out of my way to shop there!

Yes!!! Walmart never seems to maintain their cosmetics aisles. You should see the Hard Candy display in my local Walmart. Completely trashed. I should've taken a few pitctures of what I saw. Disgusting.

Shelley--that is beyond disgusting!! Omg. I'm such a freak when it comes to things like that. If it looks even REMOTELY touched, I do not buy it. I am definitely one of those will-unpack-the-entire-shelf just to find the ONE good one.
One of my shopping pet peeves are empty shelves. I seriously hate it when stores don't restock their items. I also really hate it when they put nail polish displays on the lowest level of a display forcing you to seriously sit on the floor just to browse colors. I mean, put larger items down there. Why something so small that varies in so many colors? WHY?!

Walmart needs to bring back their HBA cashier and wrap. I remember, this was almost 20 years ago, that the one I worked at the cosmetic section was it's own section with glass display cases for perfumes that wrapped around and in the center was the cashier. Think of it like a Sephora inside JCPenney because it had that type of feel to it. The cosmetics section was ALWAYS clean and nice, no opened packages 'cause the cashier could see you. Now it's disgusting. Unless it's safety sealed I won't buy from Walmart (except nail polish and even then I check to see if it was used). I'll buy facial satchet packets but that's about it unless in a sealed container.

From reading all the comments here I decided that I'm going to write Walmart corporate a nice little letter about their makeup/skincare aisles. Hubby obtained pictures of one aisle from a Walmart 15 miles away from us and he is going to the one close to our house to get pictures of that aisle as well to submit along with letter. I really don't expect a response from them but if they do I will definitely share it with you all. :)

I get grossed out at Sephora when ppl dig their fingers in the display makeup and put it on their face... I am a germ a phob and it freaks me out... Like seriously how many ppl a day dig their fingers in the display makeup right after itching their butt!

@ Annalese H. - LOLOLOL! I wonder the same thing too! I never test anything liquid unless it comes in a pump because of that! If it's a cream/liquid product I absolutely have to try but it's not in a hygienic container, I'll purchase it to try and if I don't like it, I return it.
It's allergy and flu season, people! How much snot do you think is on what you are touching!! >.<

I've just gotten to the point where I'll buy various colors of lipstick at Sephora, go to the bathroom in the mall, try them on and if I don't like them I'll return them while I'm still there. I think the SA get a little annoyed with me but I don't care. lol
Over-helpful SA's are the worst.

Bath and Body Works employees do watch you like a hawk, like Freddie mentioned. I guess cause the store is so small.
A pet peeve of mine is when you walk in and all the SAs are busy following around people who don't really want them around. Because it leaves people like me, who actually need advice left out, and most times walking out.
I wanted to test out some lipstick at Sephora this weekend, and I was so close to putting it on my bare lips, until the thought of germs came to mind. So I then proceeded to wipe with with a cotton swab with alcohol on it. Then, I used the lip wands to apply it.

-Sales Assistants that ask you if you need any help then continue to follow you around
- People who take up loads of room when you just want to pick something up to have a look at it
- People who barge you out of the way when you're trying to look at something when they could have easily accessed it
- When you go to the till and there isn't any one there because they're to busy following people around

Lisa... You bring up a good point about proximity when shopping. I hate asking ppl to move out of my way to get something! It's worse when you're eyeballing the same thing and there's only one left!

I forgot about Bath & Bodyworks. I stopped going in there after being followed way too many times. Its so distracting and I understand they want to be helpful and attentive (along with foiling any shoplifting activity) but good gracious!!!! I hate being tailed like I'm a criminal. I haven't stepped foot in one since 2005.
