Red Lips - Age Telling or Age Defying?

Do you think red lips on middle age women make them look older? Or do you think it depends on the shade of red, skin texture? Maybe they can pull it off depending on hair, makeup, outfit etc.
Most girls in their 20's and mid 30's can usually get away with wearing red and not look old but sophisticated, for us approaching 40 and older though - may not be the case.

Your thoughts?

I think there is a red lip perfect for everyone, however finding it can be tough. If you pick the wrong one it can make you look older. It really depends on the shade, skin tone, hair, etc, IMO.

Not only does the shade of red play an important part but the texture as well. I cringe when I see older women wearing a matte lip.....it looks so drying against their skin. I'll be 38 next month and I rock red a lot and I hope I can continue to do so for a long time.

I also do think it depends on the red color, because it is important to find the best shade that not only compliments your skin but also looks great on you. And i agree with mindy that everybody can wear red lips, and in the end who cares about what other people do think. I mean the only thought that is going to run in their head is: wow look at her, she has confidance enough to wear it and she looks great!
But finding the rigth red lipstick is not easy, but when you find it...you will know it!
Good luck ;)

I think it really has to depend on the person, the color, and how it is worn. At ANY age, anyone can look ridiculous in all sorts of colors if it is not worn well. I think it is also important how the rest of the face looks. For me, it's a whole package deal or nothing.

I think red, no matter what shade or undertone IS quite aging. & I'm not saying it in a bad way, but it's definitely not a look that makes you look younger or youthful - It definitely matures any look & will make it a lot more sophisticated.

That being said, I don't think older women should stay away from red lipstick. Granted, you're not going to look any younger while wearing, but a classy red lip will ALWAYS be timeless [no pun intended]
My mother wears bold lips quite frequently - she looks great in them & she loves them. She has no problem being an older woman & embraces that which I LOVE. I find women who are able to pull off a great bold lip a lot more empowering than those who stick to nudes 24/7 (like myself) haha
