hey guys! as i said in my "about me" in my profile; i just started doing more colorful makeup on myself but want to try newer things. im not gonna lie, almost all my products are the ones you buy at a pharmacy. same goes for brushes.

my question is what brushes would you recommend for starters? hopefully something that wont leave me broke (i am a mom after all)

thanks everyone and hope to be able to upload videos and products that i use n such! <3 <3

Great cheap brushes are Sigma brushes, you can use artist brushes from craft stores (just go and feel them first) and they are really cheap (Lowe and Cornell and Royal brushes are great), and some pharmacy brushes are awesome as well!

awesome! thanks!! i really wanna try that stippling brush from urban decay. is it worth the money?
also i did want to ask; whats a good way to clean them? do you have to clean them between colors? or have multiple brushes?
i see so many videos with girls doing several different colors per look and wonder that.

thanks again everyone!

My first brushes were the ecotools and they are really soft. You can give those a try and they sell like in target and walmart. Also, I heard some ELF brushes are good. I bought the Powder brush from their studio line and its great!

-You can deep clean them once a week and some use baby shampoo cause its soft. While other buy brush shampoo from like mac and stuff. You can also spot clean which is after you have done your makeup. That consist of a spray that you can buy in makeup stores.

-I don't have many eye brushes, but with the ones I have I can achieve pretty good eye looks! hope this helped a little! lol :)

Thanks Rina and April! going to target today! lol

@Hilda F. Elf brushes are great for beginners!

I have several techniques for my brushes. I deep clean them once a week using MAC's brush cleaner--though there are times I use baby shampoo and it works just as well.

I also have a daily spray on brush cleaner I bought at Sephora for in between brush use.

I need to stress the importance of keeping your brushes and cosmetics clean. These are BREEDING grounds for bacteria even if you are using it only on yourself. You don't want to take the risk of having any breaks in your skin get bacteria in it. Plus--who really can say "YES, I want that bacteria on my face!" So I clean after each use. I have multiple brushes of the ones I use most often while others that are not so popular, can deal being the only ones in the bunch.

I have a cheap bath towel I keep with me when I do makeup so I can easily spray my dirty brushes after doing my makeup and wipe on the towel (Tip: also useful if you're using the same brush for different color applications and you need to clean excess off).

@april, this might explain my sudden breakouts. ive been using my fingers and sponges but lately ive been breaking out a bit on my chin. any tips on that?

thanks so much you guys for responding!!

Breakouts can be caused by a number of things. Hormonal, stress, weather, etc. My tip for that is making sure you clean your face well at night. If you go your dermatologist, they have a number of creams and gels that work great. You can also go to your local drug store and find an OTC cream, lotion, wash, or gel with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide (Caution: might dye clothing). Use as directed.

Using CLEAN fingers and fresh sponges, are key to making sure you're not spreading bacteria around your face. So there isn't anything wrong with fingers and sponges so long as they are clean and disinfected.

Hope this was helpful!

that does! thanks soooo much! gonna buy some goodies later today. thanks!

Also, get some ispropyl alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) at the highest percent and you can keep in a spray bottle and use that to disinfect your "gear". It should not damage anything as alcohol evaporates rather quickly. I use this to disinfect my lipsticks, blushes, eye pencils, and eyeshadows.

Definitely try out the Real Techniques brushes from Ulta! They are super affordable and are really great quality.

@ Hilda-- I am a beginner myself. I was browsing through on brushes (cause I wanted to find some) I found some brushes from Coastal Scents, which I think are great. You can either buy them separately or in a set. My set cost about $30.00, but I got 10 brushes-- that are all decent brushes, which each one has its own use. I saw you were looking for a stippling brush. I actually used the big bronzer brush in this set, which is stiff and flat topped to do it, works great. Alone that brush is around 10 bucks. I figured by buying brushes that are a little cheaper, you can achieve the looks you want, and gradually get to nicer brushes. I hope this helps. Here is the website and a picture of the set I have :)

Looks like everybody is giving you great advice! & I second everybody who said ELF Studio brushes!
Right now they have a sale where their 11 Piece Studio brushes are $2.12 (usually $30) for a limited time on orders $20.12 or more. It's a GREAT deal. Especially since you wanna try out new products!
(P.S ALL brushes in studio line are ridiculously soft) :)
