Hello Lovely's.... So I had a random thought while cleaning my foundation make up brush. I have noticed that my foundation brush seems to have a waxy build up that I can't get to go away no matter how much I wash it. I was thinking what would happen if I stuck it in a cup full of makeup remover?! Before I did I thought I would ask you if you have done that and if it has ruined any of your foundation brushes?? If anyone has any better tips on better cleaning makeup brushes I would love that feedback too :)

Hmm, well heat would take the wax right off. I wonder if it would damage the brushes too much to boil them? Sounds kinda drastic but I imagine it would be less damaging than a chemical soak? I don't know, just an idea...

LOL! I heard of someone boiling their brushes and the hair came right out of the fennel(sp?). I have a sigma f60 that does that same thing and I just use my neutrogena anti-residue shampoo and it usually takes away that greasy waxy stuff off of it. Also after you wash/dry it, you may want to spray alcohol on it or dip the brush in some rubbing alcohol and that helps sometimes too...
Hope that helped! : )

Thanks Cameron and Angela for your suggestions :D I swear I think of the most random things when I am cleaning my brushes or getting ready for the day!

I actually washed all of my brushes yesterday. My MAC face and body leaves that residue on my foundation brush. I used my Cetaphil gentle facial wash and it did the job. Of course using warm water helps break up the dirt but to boil the brushes you are just going to loosen the glue that is holding the brush togeather.

I didn't consider the glue! THanks for mentioning that Theresa, I was kind of thinking of trying it out.. now I'll definitely stick to my cleansers to take the build-up off!

Yes, you can absolutely use eye makeup remover to remove any waxy residue, but I use it like you would a regular brush cleaner (on a paper towel, swirl it around a few times).

I usually use dish soap to clean my foundation brushes and the wax residue usually washes off if I rinse ALL the soap out. If I am in a rush I just use 70% isopropyl alcohol and it comes clean as well. I can imagine that some makeup removers will remove wax residue as well since some remove waterproof mascara. :)

for this situation i'll use dish soap as heather mentioned....i use dawn but i'm sure any would do the trick- rinse well, then i rewash it with my regular cleanser.

i use a mixture of vegetable cooking oil and dishsoap and give it a hella good rinse in lukewarm water
