I'm on the lookout for a new flat iron, too, but can't afford a ghd (probably the most loved brand) or a Sedu.
I've read mostly good things about Solia (~$80ish at folica.com for the 1" version), if you want to spend a little more but still not a lot. On the drugstore end, surprisingly, Remington is well-liked. (I say "surprisingly" because I'd have though Conair, especially their Infiniti line, would score better for some reason. But no.)

Personally, I think you guys should check out NuMeStyle.com. They have several deals running on Couptessa...

They seriously make the BEST flat iron I have ever used. It straightens your hair in one pass and you can also use the flat iron to curl your hair. Def worth checking out - I googled NuMe to read product reviews and I found nothing but good things!

i know you dont want to spend a lot of money...but i definitely recommend investing in the ghd. the one that i have has lasted well over 2 years already. my hair is very thick and frizzy and ugly curls. this iron was definitely worth the money and i dont think i ever want to try another one. its very versatile too, i have straightened, curled and crimped my hair with this iron. defintely AMAZING, i swear by this flat iron.

I have a Revlon and I definitely would NOT recommend it lol. It doesn't heat up enough to curl but I guess it's alright just to smooth my hair after blowdrying it straight.

Great, I really hope you do. I own the NuMe Fashionista and their 25 mm curling wands and I have nothing but good things to say about them!

the KQC flat iron works really well as well, it's cheap and because i have curly hair it heaps up so much that it straightens my hair sooooo great.
