^ That's what I first thought at first too - that maybe she's doing things for girls HER age. But she talks about anti-aging serums, expensive products, dramatic looks, etc.

Wild personality aside, her tuts just aren't really age appropriate.

wow that video was horrible! Lol listening to her voice was like nails on a chalkboard! @_@ at that age I knew nothing about makeup! I would never let a 12 year old wear a smokey eye! maybe just tinted lip balm!

Check out my channel :)

Lol @anti-aging serum wow, it kinda makes me wonder what in the world are we teaching our youth. It's sickening and sad. Girls that age should be wearing lip gloss and maybe mascara.

There are several things that turn me off from watching certain makeup channels.
- Voice overs that sound like the person is reading from a script. I can't stand it!! It sounds SO fake!
- Haul after haul after haul - I do like the occassional haul, but if it's all you do and you never use the products in actual tutorials, well, then it's goodbye!
- Peeps who are too perky and have high pitched voices - ugh! It's like nails on a chalkboard!
- Over promoting products - it's annoying!
- Poor lighting
- Videos that are too long - My fave vids are those that are no more than 10 minutes! I have the attention span of a gnat.
- Music intros with graphics that take about 10 minutes to play before you even begin to speak in your vid!

I think that's it for now!!

Im not gonna lie, I hate how so many gurus are including skinny cow candy bars in their favourites videos! Just because mylikes is sponsoring it. Why the sudden love for them? hhmmm..
Anyway please check out my videos and feel free to give constructive criticism because im pretty new!

Horrible video & audio quality. What products someone chooses to use in a video or decides to purchase doesn't bother me. I don't feel obligated to go out and buy it, nor are they telling me to.

@ Deirdre - YES! It's ridiculously obvious why they're all of the sudden reviewing.. food. It made sense way later when I found out mylikes is sponsoring it. Very cheap move.

When they don't know WTF they're talking about, tips & tricks that make no sense, and when they go off on random tangents for 15 minutes and their video is 20 minutes long... I also can't stand when their intro is about 10 minutes and their tutorial is 5. =\

My big peeve is video quality especially when it comes to videos where swatches are involved... Why swatch it if its just going to be blurry? I like the videos that include clear stills of the swatch its very helpful. Also trying to hustle you into buying products, no thank you. Lastly would be repeating themselves or saying "This is how it looks like" I don't know why but that just doesn't sound right to my ears especially when its repeat it 10 times. lol

@ Deirdre Yes! I watch another guru and she always included snacks she liked in her favorites which I thought was cute. She wasn't being paid or sent any products she would just say what chips or cookies she liked and I really liked that it showed her personality. To add to what you said about the Skinny Cow bars. When various gurus say the same thing about the product it becomes obvious. I hate that!

@Andrea Oh yes I am familiar with her. That is an example of trying to hard, and fake enthusiasm. Everyone else has already said what I had in mind.

Being rude to subscribers. Rude comments are what really put me off :( I know there are trolls running rampant everywhere, but hey...how about those subscribers who genuinely like what you do? It's not fair.

It's your channel, do what you have to do, but don't be rude. Lately, I've been filtering who I watch on youtube, and it's pretty much just Lisa Eldridge these days anyway.

I can't stand horrible webcam quality videos, I know my old ones are like that but now my new ones are all HD. Voices in another thing, I can't stand annoying voices and fake people, I also hate over confidence. I can stand a long video, because most of mine are long... I know a lot of people hate them... but I suck at editing videos so I kinda just add a title and go with it haha

Wow, it takes a lot to make a video people will watch! haha!

Seriously, though, I have found this really helpful. I just want somebody to watch my videos that watches a lot of videos--and then coach me. There are things others will notice that its hard to pinpoint when its you on the screen. We excuse things in ourselves that we wouldn't want to watch somebody else do--does that make sense? I know that when I am editing I either cut everything out or leave everything in, I am an all-or-nothing type of girl. haha!

Am I the only one that really enjoys those music, with written instruction videos? The only reason is because majority of the time I get on the net is at work (once I get home, it's mostly about family), so my speakers are very low at work, so I can't really hear all too well unless I want the entire office knowing I'm watching YT videos. That or I have so little time to really be on the net (with my children and all), so I need the video to be to the point! I really really really dislike 10 minute intros -- get to the point already!

I don't like poor quality videos. -- When they put the product close to the lense, but it doesn't focus in on the product. You don't need a high end camera, but if your camera won't focus, don't waste time (again with getting to the point) trying to show your products up close.

Gurus who try to hard to be funny/silly. =\

Last but not least, gurus who are very shady and deceptive. Don't pretend you're putting on that L'oreal True Match foundation, when it's clearly MUFE HD foundation (I won't name this guru, but some of you may know about this). Once you lie, it's very hard to gain a viewers trust again.

@Jane oh my I have heard of shady things but I haven't heard of lying about the foundation you are using! Where they being compensated?

The controversy was -- I don't know if they were being paid to push L'oreal, but this guru filmed in her bathroom. She has a mirror on the opposite direction of her. So people watched her praise True Match, then puts it down -- then she "puts" the foundation on her fingers to apply it. What people saw was -- she puts down the bottle of True Match, then picks up the MUFE HD Foundation and puts that on her fingers. They saw it by the reflection of the other mirror. She was called out on it, but her explanation was she transferred the True Match into the MUFE HD Foundation bottle. I hear the video has since been deleted, and after that she covered the other mirror with a sheet (although I think she may have moved and now no longer films around "reflective" surroundings).

Jane, man I want to know who this is! haha!

@Jane I remember that! I did enjoy Kandee Johnson, and I still think some of the videos she has posted were helpful. But after I purchased SunLabs products based on her review seeming more genuine, I slowly started losing trust in her reviews. The L'oreal foundation video really irked me, and after that I refuse to watch her videos. I don't like bashing people because I can't say what caused her to feel like she needed to mislead people for financial gain, but in the end you stab yourself in the foot because people don't wanna hear what you have to say if your lying to them. I don't even really watch youtube gurus any longer for this exact reason. Most of them are as good as paid programming advertisements.

Hey Cameron, I agree. Before Googling her and coming up with my own personal view, I enjoyed her videos. I really enjoyed them too because she was one of the few gurus, who were very easy on the eyes and ears, and were to the point (well from the videos I've seen). But after doing my research and what not, if I do watch a video of her, I take it with a grain of salt -- and not really quick to purchase the products she uses.

Hahah I just Googled l'oreal true match HD guru to find out who you were talking about and found the video. I never watched her and I guess I won't start.

I wanna see! =x Can anyone private message me the link?

Steff, here it is. http://fliiby.com/file/882690/rj5xw7l7ka.html This is not YT, either she posted it here (its a different version than the one of hers I have seen, I re-looked at the on I saw on YT and its been corrected--you can clearly see her pour it on her hands) or someone took it and put it up on fliiby? Not sure.

I don't know what to think. I like Kandee, but you can clearly see the bottle with a black pump in the mirror behind her--its not True Match. It looks like MUFE to me...so sad. And especially since it doesn't appear that she's been paid or given free promo products in order to do this video.

The only thing I can come up with is that perhaps she didn't like how dark of a shade she picked to contour her face--the L'oreal color she chose was REALLY dark. Another interesting thing between the two videos is that she says in the first (fliiby) to apply the lighter shade to your eyelid, and in her "corrected" (?) video she says to apply the darker shade.

I have watched her do this trick a lot, using two different shades. Who knows? HAHA I am more confused now that I watched them.

But yeah, total turnoff!

I think she did, but what she said was that she "forgot" to include a segment in their about how she transfers her makeup without pumps into bottles with pumps. When she finally re-uploaded it, it was a completely different video without the segment about bottle transfers.

A voice aha! If they're really squeaky it drives me crazy and I can't watch. That is the main reason I don't make videos, I'm from Wales and I think people would probably find my voice annoying or just not understand me.

Also someone that rambles on about 10 other things before a tutorial, I'm sure your lunch was lovely, but I'd like to see the make up please :) aha.

I agree with you Lisa, I know a person can't change their voice but it bugs me to listen to an extremely high pitched tone.

Wow, I had no idea about the Kandee Johnson drama, but then while looking this up I found out about the legal troubles involving her son missing school. It's so sad that the world learns of these things because you put yourself out there. Some things are fine to share, such as make up tips and stuff, but I don't think it's necessary to publish about a person's personal troubles.
