Youtube Gurus: What draws you in?

I find that if you're a guru, I'm hooked if you stick to the theme of your channel...specialize, its the way to success. Lifestyle videos are great, and there's no harm in creating another channel if you want to share more of your personal life but as for tutorials keep it on topic, for the love of your subbies video feeds mainly.
I like the 'niche' girls and guys...people you can go to if you need inspiration for a wild look or FX or contouring and camouflage. Vintage looks and historic looks always get me subbing.
Also, quirkyness and a flair for turning the everyday into something spectacular.

What really bugs me about a lot of guru's is when they're "gurus" and have a bajillion subscribers... and don't have any tutorials. They have hauls, they have "reviews" of products they've been sent and checked out for 20 seconds, they have more hauls, outfit's of the day, and that's it. They don't do tutorials, they walk about whatever comes to mind - and that's great, for a vlog channel. But don't try and tell me you're a "makeup guru" when all you do is haul, show your clothes and try to sell me something.

I love a lot of gurus for their personality, yes some are extremely well known, and some I feel don't get as much recognition as they should but I love them all the same. I love seeing how different colours can go together, learning things. I am a person who although I dislike the advertising, I DO like knowing exactly what product they use so if I WANT to buy it - I can. If it's LE, I'd like to know of possible dupes, not just "any blue shadow you have" - there are so many different shades of blue, finishes of shadows etc. I also like the gurus who go all out, hair, makeup, etc. Especially people who can make amazing Halloween tutorials, even if I don't plan on re-creating them all, I like seeing their skills really come to life.

I'm also keen on gurus who actually communicate with their sub's. Answer their questions on Youtube, Twitter, etc. I see a lot of guru's complaining on Twitter and YouTube about their "haters" but don't see many comments to their subs who are asking genuinely GOOD questions - not something stupid like "What lipstick is that" when it's just been said in the video, make sense?  Haha.

That's why I mainly stick to doing reviews on my blog! :)
