I have combination skin - super dry in places and really oily on my t-zone only. I have tried tons of products and tricks to keep that area matte, but nothing seems to work. Any good suggestions from the Beautylish community?

Make sure that your moisturizer, primer, and foundation are oil free. That will help a lot. Make sure to powder that area well, as well, to set everything. There are tons of specific products to help with this on top of this as well... Such as Bare Escentuals Prime Time Oil Control, Urban Decay's De-slick products... Clinique offers lots of mattifiers or oil control products as well.. even neutrogena offers these things for a lower price.. Mineral powder foundations are great for oil as well.. Also, blotting sheets are helpful! They're cheap, little papers and you just blot them on your face and they will absorb your oil without messing up your makeup. It's all about trying out products to see what works for you. Good luck!!

I have a super oily t-zone as well and have tried tons of different products that are supposed to help stop shine but I hate the feeling of those thick primers! One trick I've found works for me is to:
1. Use a blotting sheet on your face before applying your foundation
2. Apply MAC Loose Blot Powder with a fluffy powder puff to t-zone after foundation
3. Use a fluffy brush to lightly apply pressed powder to set face (on top of blot powder)
Throughout the day, I'll usually do these 3 steps again in order to refresh my makeup instead of just blotting (I'll end up with zero foundation on if I only do this), or cakeing on Blot/Pressed Powder (will look cakey!!). Hope this helps!

Thanks! I've tried a ton of different oil absorbing products, but nothing leaves me oil free for a whole day. I guess it's time to accept that touch-ups are necessary.

I get oily really fast and on days where I don't have time to really touch up my make up I like to use MUFE HD Powder. Works amazing to absorb the oil on my nose and cheeks.

I love Maybelline's Angelfit Pore Zero base. It keeps my oily t-zone matte all day - no blotting. (: It also contains SPF 25. Its really light, almost like a moisturizer. I really like it. Unfortunately, its Asia-exclusive, but you can find it on ebay from a reputable seller.

I had super oily skin as well, especially on my t-zone area. I had heard alot of good reviews about Cetaphil products. I bought :
1.Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser (for normal to dry skin) it tends to remove excess oil without overdrying.
2. Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15( non-greasy lightweight formula)
Make sure your mositurizer and foundation are oil free!!!!!!!! I apply my moisturizer as soon as I get out of the shower so it locks in all the mositure that my skin needs!! After that I allow the moisturizer to sink in and wait for about 5-10 min.Trust me girl I have had really oily-combination skin all my life and I have tried so many products. Now i do tend to get just ALITTLE oily through out the day but just a little blotting paper and powder after that does the job! CETAPHIL has done what it claims to do and I wish I would of known this since middle school! Hope this helps :)

I like Cetaphil products too. And I recently found out about this brand... although I do plan on trying CeraVe, which is a drug store brand too.
I tried a lot of department store products. I've tried tons and tons from Sephora. I spent $$$ for regular sizes. It would work the first two days, then stop. So I decided to just use drug store brands for 1/2 - 1/3 the cost.

I agree that sticking to a good oil-free, but still moisturizing, skin care regimen is great way to balance oily/combo skin but has anyone actually found something that keeps you oil-free enough to make touch ups unnecessary? If you have, I'd love to know!

I haven't tried it but I've heard that Urban Decay's De-Slick In A Tube Mattifying Gel is VERY effective and you only need a little for tons of control and it's lightweight and stuff. It's a lot of people's holy grail for oily-ness. :)

Try Philips' Milk of Magnesia. It was recommended on YouTube. Since I've started using this I'm no longer oily and it improved the overall health of my skin.

Find the right balance for your skin type is very tricky. What skincare products are you using? This is a very important step in balancing your skin before you put makeup on.
Sometimes with Combo skin types your skin is actually really more on the dry side and is counter acting the dryness with oil production. So you might notice a dramatic difference when you find the right regimen. Trust me I have similar skin and have tried everything on the market!

I agree with Jennifer. Sometimes, you're oily because your skin is very dry. Therefore, your body produces more oil to counteract the dryness. And that is why I agree with Diana too, that moisturizing is an important step, and it shouldn't be skipped if you have oily skin. Maybe a good moisturizer, and keeping your skin more hydrated will lead to less oiliness.
Hmm, comes to think of it, the past couple of days or week or so after incorparting Witch Hazel (I never really did toner for a while) to my regimine, then following up with my usual Clinique moisturizer(The dramatic lotion...) AND just applying Cetaphil moisturizer for Normal to Dry skin to my dry cheeks, I notice my face isn't that oily anymore. My face was O-I-L-Y!!
On the weekend when I didn't go out and didn't really put anything on my face, except for washing it in the morning, by noon my face would be very oily and gross. Recently, I noticed my face is matte-ish, because I would make sure I didn't forget to moisturize morning and night.
Anyway, I was so going to try Milk of Magnesia, but it's a good thing Mandy mentioned what she did. =)

@ Andrea F., I've been looking at that product since it came out- sampling a bit on my hand every time I'm at Sephora but never bought because I'd get distracted or something.. I might take the plunge and try it out now though! :)

I've heard about the risks with Milk of Magnesia before, so I know. Also, very very very little of this product goes a long way. I only have to dab and I'm oil free! I have dry areas on my face, but an oily t-zone. Be sure to moisturize, as I still do with oily skin.

@Diana yaaay! Tell me how it goes! I've heard so many raves and good reviews about it..

I had actually tried Milk of Magnesia for a week or two - figured it was worth a shot - and it kept me more matte than usual, but it caused breakouts. I agree that it probably isn't a great idea.
