I have really dark thick brown hair almost black, and want to go blonde. Any suggestions on how to go blonde without completely damaging my hair?

normally im a "DIY" kinda girl, but when you are trying to go to that type of extreme w/ your hair, i totally recommend having a professional do it. im a licensed nail tech and mua, but i used to own a full svc salon and i have seen LOTS and LOTS of terrible home hair dye jobs and trust me, corrective color is a LOT more expensive than just having a pro do it for you in the first place.

thanks for the suggestions i was thinking of going to the salon and starting of with highlights and then go in a month or so and get more highlights until eventually my whole hair is covered

I want to do the same thing! But it will be the first time I dye my hair, a stylist told me that it is better to start with highlights just how you said.

I think that if you dye your hair blonde, it will wash out the color of your skin, instead, you can buy two bottles of blonde dye and it will lighten your hair color ! I had black hair before but now it's a auburn/golden shade which complements my skin tone nicely. I hope your hair dying process goes well ! GOOD LUCK !! ^ ^ ~

I had black hair and I told a stylist I wanted blonde on top and black on the bottom. She advised me it will clash, but I still wanted it... But it was a more orange outlook. =| it probably could've been blonde blonde if I were to wait more longer for the bleach to work, or something. My friend who is a hairstylist explained why that happens, but I cannot remember why.

But let me tell you, once you go blonde... It will cost a lot to maintain your roots. So I went to dark brown, but that was a lot to maintain too. So I completely stopped dying my hair.

The only thing my stylist said was if your blonde and want to go brown.... NEVER EVER NEVER do it yourself. Because of the chemicals in the color, your hair will turn out green... Instead of brown. You have to see a professional cause they need to put in "toner" or some sort in your light hair before dying it brown. I think this is for processed hair only. If your naturally blonde... This may not be the problem.

@Mandy million thank you's ! For your reply and advice it really helps. I am definitely going to follow the process you explained. I am leaning towards an ash blonde, I don't really want anything golden i hope the color I am going for complements my fair skin because I do have very light skin color.
