Did anyone break out after first usage of this product? I just switched to this cleanser and after the second usage, I woke up with 2 whiteheads and by 2 days, I think I got around 10 spots(pimples+ whiteheads). Not sure if I do believe in the whole idea "Things will get worse before they get better". I would think with all that oil, it will help with my super dry and flaky skin. Anyone had problems with Purity breaking out on them before it gets better?

I mainly use it for makeup remover and when I started using it it never made me breakout more than I already did. Everyone's skin is different though. It isn't harsh though so I would continue using it and seeing what happens.

When I got my Clarsonic, I used it with the sample soaps (Clarsonic brand) that it came with. I was really naive and thought I had to only use Clarsonic facewash -- until I went to Sephora looking for more, and they told me I could use anything. HAH

Anyway, since I had the brush and Sephora was doing a special with Clarsonic and Philosophy's Purity I decided to buy Purity. I used up about 2-3 bottles of Purity... and I don't know if it's just me, but I broke out like crazy! =(

Like you, I kept at it because of the "things will get worse before they get better" and the "you need to try something about for 28 days or so for your skin to like it". A good bottle lasted me about 30 days, so I was at it for a few months. Then I said the heck with it... I couldn't believe how much I broke out, and how much I kept breaking it out. =( Especially considering the cost I spent to buy the Clarsonic, and Purity... I really wanted it to work.

I stopped using the Clarsonic and Purity. Fast Forward about 2-3 years, I think I'm going to start using my Clarsonic again -- but this time with my "HG" facial cleanser... cheaper and much much better -- CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser.

@Jane I was using Burt's Bees and decided I decided a new facial wash since it wasn't helping with my blackheads that much. I was using it with the Clarisonic and I didn't break out. I heard about how the Clarisonic works great with the Purity so I got a bottle but I just wasn't expecting the acne carnival. The thing is I hardly get acne so I'm trying to figure out. I switched cleansers all the time before and I'm trying to remember if I ever broke out like this before. I just stopped using it and used Mario Badescu Orange Cleansing Soap which surprisingly do not break me out even with a weird afterwash feel. I'm just gonna see if my acne clears up. If it did, it must be the Purity. That would be a sad thing since I have like 99% of it left.

@Jennifer Yea, I know everyone's skin is different. I just don't break out on new cleansers ever so I was surprise at the acne carnival. Irks! Usually if my skin don't agree with a product, it will just get red and irritated and get dry and peel afterwards like a sunburn. My skin is weird.

Thank you to both Jen and Jane for your replies. I truly appreciate it at this moment of acne carnival nightmare. :)

Fortunately I asked for a generous sample at Sephora of the Purity before buying. Same result as Eilla. I broke out. Used again and my breakouts became worse. Stopped Purity, and within two days skin was back to normal. Will not use or recommend to any one. I did share with Sephora and she thanked me for the input.

I don't know if I agree with that whole "worse before it gets better" ideology either. My skin is pretty dry and I get flakey patches too. Exfoliating on a regular basis with enzyme peels and acids has always helped. I noticed that when I try to use my oils when my skin is dry and flakey I tend to break out more. I think it might be because the flakey skin+oils just clogs my pores more which is what's causing the breakouts. If you like Philosophy in general and want to give Purity a chance, you might want to include Miracle Worker AM, (contains glycolic acid, which exfoliates) to your routine. I love this product- it's made a huge difference in my breakouts!

@Barbara Ok, it's definitely Purity that cause the breakout. My acne has cleared up after I stopped using it on Thursday. Ugh! How annoying.

@Angela I think you and I have the same skin type; dry and flakey. I think I will follow your recommendation after I have no special occasions to attend to. I have 99% left in the bottle. If it doesn't work, I'm just gonna return it or put it in a swap. It is looking like a dud to me. I dare not even pass it to any family members.

I think I'm just a glutton for a punishment. Decided to try Purity again with my deep pore brush. Then I do a facial peel and apply Help Me from Philosophy. Gonna see if I break out on Dad's day.

@Angela - I do love Philosophy's products...and was disappointed in the Purity because they do such a good job "selling it" on QVC. I am a HUGE FAN of the microdelivery exfoliating scrub. Use it every morning in the shower. And my makeup looks fresh every morning.

@Eilla - you are not a glutton...It's good to give some products a second chance. And as Angela suggested try different combination.

@Barbara @Angela Gave Purity another try but I killed any oil-based moisturizer and I exfoliate in the morning after each use of it. No acne after. Ok, a couple of tiny whiteheads but nothing major after. I don't think I will be repurchasing it after I'm through with it though cause it feels like I have to be on my toes constantly. Btw, I thought this cleanser do not foam up or have any sulfate but this isn't the case with mine. Mine does foam up and it does contain sulfate which is weird.
