Hi, so I'm pretty new to beauty blogging, and I don't wear makeup everyday (but I do use it often for performances). So I'm not sure what to do for prom! My dress is long and bright red, and since I'm Asian-American, I shouldn't look washed-out wearing it (well, I hope not!). Is there anyone who can suggest a nice, simple look I could do? I was thinking red lips, but that might be too much, especially for prom (and it doesn't really fit my personality). And since I'm used to doing heavy stage makeup, I'm not sure about what to do for my eyes. Help please?

I would have to say with a red dress you should do and charcoals or any smokey colors. For lips since you will have a dramatic eye stay close to nudes, and light glosses for balance.
Hope this helps!

I agree with Janelle, the look she described is typical of Hollywood red carpet glamour, and you can never go wrong with that!

Thanks so much for all the input! :] I think I'll probably end up going with the basic smokey eye and nude/light gloss for lips (even though the red lip is gorgeous, I don't think I can pull that off). But I'll definitely be playing around with some looks beforehand.
Also, what are your suggestions for hair? My dress is actually one-shouldered, and there's a bow detailing on the strap, so I was thinking about curling my hair and pulling it to one side. But I can't really think of any other looks at the moment... I'm pretty set on curling my hair though because it's so fine and almost never has any volume. Any thoughts on this?

Oh, I forgot to ask earlier, but do you guys think that false lashes would be too much? Or would it be ok? (Because my lashes are pretty much invisible haha.)

I think doing a side curly ponytail would be cute! Just make sure your hair is pulled to the side with no strap. Also if you are have problems with volume..try blow drying your hair with a round brush starting at the crown and blow drying upside down and work your way back. :) Falsh lashes are always a GO! I wear them on normal days!!

if you don't want to do full lashes MAC has some great 3/4 lashes that give you a little extra without looking like you have falsies on. i love mine!

Selena Gomez may not be Asian however she has a coloring most similar to what a girl of Asian decent might have. So here's a few ideas on what you can potentially do.

My two suggestios:
Bright and bold red lips with subtle cat eyeliner
or
Smokey and neutral eye with nude lips.

Hello! I'm Asian-American as well (Japanese-American to be specific). I'd say do a light smokey eye and a red lip. Even though it doesn't necessarily fit what you'd wear every day, Prom isn't exactly any night and red or red-orange lips are SUPER trendy right now. You don't have to do a super dark eye and I'm assuming your eyes are pretty almond-shaped as well, so just keep it light. Define your eye without making it heavy so you can highlight them. Lips will pop, eyes will look sweet yet sultry and red is a fabulous dress color!
Also, since you have almond-shaped eyes, wear nice long falsies not flares (out-corner only). If you wear nice wispy falsies from your outer to inner corner, they'll make your eyes appear more open and glamorous. Flares tend to elongate your eyes and make them look more narrow. Tricks of the trade ;)
