Hey beauties,

I'm having a hard time finding an exfoliator that I love. I have normal to combination skin and I just want something that can slough away dead skin cells to give me a renewed, fresh look. If there is an exfoliator that you swear by, pleease do share!! :)
And on the other hand, if there is also one that you've had bad experiences with, let me know those as well so that I can steer clear! Thanks!

St ives apricot scrub works well & lately ive bin using Neutrogena deep clean gentle scrub. i have oily skin btw.
you can also create your own scrub using a bit of olive oil and the contents of a herbal tea bag or some brown sugar.

Eminence Organics has a gentle Blueberry Soy Exfoliating Cleanser (fruit enzymes) , as well as a physical Stawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant that's not harsh on the skin.

Thanks for the feedback Barzey and Tami! I've heard St. Ives Apricot Scrub's beads are made of sand particles and are actually very damaging to the skin. Hmm... never heard of Eminence Organics! Where do they sell their products?

St. Ives is too harsh for me. Check out http://eminenceorganics.com/ - they will tell you which local spas will carry the brand. You can also buy it online.

St. Ives is too harsh and can actually leave tiny cuts on your skin so steer clear of that! I actually use plain sugar. Just wet your face, put some sugar in palms and scrub away. Rinse and that's it! If you want some extra moisture, add a few drops of olive oil to the sugar. Simple, inexpensive and it works!

I love my marykay timewise set but once in a while I do use an exfoliater from The Body Shop. It's called something like Teat Tree...the packaging is green..lol..its really good!

if you use mac's micorfine refininsher if will give you everything your looking for girl! it has enzamatic properties (which are exfoillliants that you don't see) which give you an awesome glow...and actual manual properties (the kind you feel) which include grape seed oil and apricot which will help with blackheads whiteheads comedones and all the above...its an awesome scrub! i would suggest 3 times a week, :)

St. Ives Apricot Scrub - The Fresh version, not the Blemish/Blackhead version. This is great! It's very affordable and doesn't break my skin out!

I LOOOOOVE the Fresh Soy face exfoliator from sephora. It's got tiny little beads in it that exfoliate but doesn't leave the skin feeling tight afterward. The whole Fresh Soy line is amazing, I use the cleanser and the exfoliator the most and love them!!!

@Elle - Tons of pre-packaged scrubs are made from sugar and cost a fortune. Why spend the cash when you already have it in your kitchen? I have very oily/acne-prone skin and haven't broken out from it. In fact, my skin's been better since there are no questionable ingredients like pre-packaged stuff. Just remember to be gentle and don't scrape the heck outta your face, lol!

well, I LIVE by the aspirin mask. It exfoliates the skin, shrinks pores, and clears up acne (if you have it). Crush up 4 or 5 aspirin pills till its a powder substance, then add a couple drops of water till if forms a paste. Exfoliate by doing circular motions around face. Leave on for about 15 mins(it will dry on ur face and be stiff), then wash out. Follow up with a moisturizer of your choice! BE CAREFUL NOT TO IT GET IN YOUR EYES =]

I love the St. Ives...for some reason, it just does the trick! my skin is sensitive so it's strange that such an intense scrubs works so well for me.

I use the St Ives green tea scrub. Not as harsh as the apricot and smells amazing. It also reduces red in your skin!

Wow, it seems like a lot of you actually make your own exfoliator at home with sugar! Hmm... I may try it out.

@Kristen K, I've used to use Fresh's Soy cleanser as well and it didn't do anything for me. But thanks for the suggestion!

@Jennifer T, how much of each?? :)

Seriously thank you all for your suggestions! It's nice to know that I have options other than spending $40 hehe. xoxo thanksss!!! <3

I used to use the Equate apricot scrub, but found out that it was too harsh for your face. I was at target...so I bought the Neutrogena gentle exfoliating creamy oil wash. I LOVE it! <3 It gently exfliates, moisturizes, and wakes you up. Its a total plus that it smells like yummy oranges! Hope you find this helpful :)

i love mac volcanic ash exfoliator but they only promote it as limited edition. i still have mine b/c i have a clarisonic now.

Rodan + Fields ANTI-AGE Daily Cleansing Mask. You leave on your face for a minute or two to let it dry. I used to make my own exfoliator with sugar and lemon juice. I liked that a lot but it was too harsh for me to use every day. The R + F is gentle. I use it every day.

what i use is super simple, aspirin! i saw it on youtube a long time ago and i do it once a week in my hand i put 3-4 aspirins and add a few drops of hot water to make a paste, its amazing i scrub my face with it alone after washing my face or if im not wearing too much makeup i mix the paste with my face wash. it also clears up mild acne!! i havent gotten zits in almost a year, but i still get a few black heads and white heads. over all though its pretty amazing

My HG exfoliator is Dr. Brandt's Microdermabrasion in a Jar. Unfortunately, it runs around $75, but the jar does last me a few years so it's worth it. I only use a tiny amount once or twice every week and it really helps keep my flakies at bay. And it smells like sweet lemon. Almost like lemon icing but not in a gross way.

A cheaper alternative that I've tried and also liked much better than any St. Ive's is Queen Helene's Mint Julep Scrub. It's around $3 at drugstores and ULTA; the particles aren't anywhere as fine as Dr. Brandt's (since it's a scrub), but the tube says it's gentle enough for use even every day. The particles are made from ground walnut shells, but it defintely doesn't feel harsh, plus has a nice, clean minty smell.
