I go on a lot of weekend trips where I don't want to check-in my bag and pay extra fees. Usually I end up cutting down on make-up I take along with me because it all tends to be so bulky.. Any suggestions on mini-sizing my make-up products? I usually want to take with me:
- Bare Minerals Matte SPF powder, large round container
- Bare Minerals loose powder blush
- Benefit You Rebel foundation
- Urban Decay 16 color eyeshadow kit.. And I only ever use 4 of the colors :)
- Perfume / body spray of some sort - I already have a mini-atomizer for this! Yay!
- All sorts of lotions and creams for face and body
I would love to know how other beauties minimize their make-up packing for trips! :)

The Target by my house sells these little plastic travel containers that are pretty good for things like lotion. Sometimes it gets a little messy trying to fill them up but its way better than paying 25 dollars to check in your bag and then getting there and not having anything because they probably lost the bag anyway (ok airline rant over haha).
...but the containers Christina posted look way cuter!!

GOOD question! The eyeshadow one is tough, how do you guys do it?

The eye shadow question is a good one, Sally! I have tons of palettes with 10 + shadows in them, but only end up ever using 3 or 4. For traveling purposes, I recommend having eye shadow singles pots on hand. That way, you can pick and choose which colors you like versus dedicating yourself to an entire palette. Another option is to create a MAC 4-pan palette. The 4 pan palette is very small and compact (fits in the palm of my hand), and you can customize which single shadows you want to put in there for your very own custom look! You can take the pans and switch them around to customize looks for traveling.
My last option is to take eye shadow *loose powder* in those 5g screw top jars. They are light weight and easy to transport, however, the downside of these is that they could possibly unscrew loose, and people sometimes have more trouble working with loose powder.
All in all, traveling lightweight with an array of makeup to choose from IS possible, just get creative :)

Traveling makeup fave: a purse-sized, Clinique all-in-one palette I got at duty-free in Heathrow Int'l departures and have NEVER seen anywhere else! It has a pressed powder, a good blush, lovely eye shadow quad, a full-sized mascara, and a pull-out drawer underneath with lipglosses. Bonus: there's a mirror inside, but the entire outside of the case is mirrored as well. IT'S THE BEST! I've scoured the web & never found it again, so I use it sparingly & save it for trips! The actual makeup & colors are great and I *would* use it every day if I could.

Now that sounds fabulous Katie! Wow.. :D
When I travel is when I tend to bring all the sample size/gift with purchase products that I've collected. They take up so little space, you can easily take everything you need. Travel containers/spray bottles/jars are great too for transferring your favourites.

Wendy, Trish McEvoy makes empty magnetized organizers for eye shadows and blushes in all different sizes. If you can pop out the eye shadow pans without breaking them, you can pop them into one of her organizers and take just your favorites. Just be careful in popping them out. Sometimes they come out easily; sometimes companies really glue them in. I'd recommend testing the waters with one of the colors you don't like.

If you go to Sephora or even some of the makeup counters, you can ask them for a sample size of your foundation. Just pretend you're trying it. They will usually give it to you for free. It's usually plenty enough for your travels. I also like to use all the sample stuff I collect from whatever whatevers. The things I can't live without, I will put into smaller containers. As for eyeshadow, I just choose a smaller palette I have with a few shadows I can live with using for just the vacation. When I'm on vacation, I tend to forget about a lot of my makeup. I just want to get out and enjoy wherever I am, so I'm not too picky about what I bring.

If you are contact lens user, just use your extra contact lens container to store your makeup and skincare, 2 products in one container! no leak and easy to carry!

I use things as dual purpose like lippie as cheek tint, easy things that can fit in a small space like the nyx jumbo shadow pencils, like Tamara mentioned sample size things are perfect to take/use on holidays :)

i have a black opal stick foundation which is a convenient size
loose powder
id take 2 or 3 quads / trios of eyeshadow
eyebrow pencil
mascara & eyeliner
my fave lipstick & chapstick
my fave blush
all these fit nicely in my little pouch
along with a few essential brushes:
eyebrow, powder, blush and shadow brushes
to maximize space. instead of taking a bottle of facial cleaner i sometimes opt for olay cleansing cloths.

however, i DO like to minimize my toiletries. i make sure to save any travel size container i have and use those for my shampoo/conditioner, face wash, and moisturizer; anything that comes in a big bottler/container, basically. i particularly like lush's black jars because they're the perfect size.
