i asked the same question a year ago (not on here and i ended up purchasing a GHD because its the best of the best and makes the best curls..
in my opinion its fabulous for loose wavy curls at the end or straight hair but nothing beats a hot roller set! i have fine wavy hair that hits the middle of my back and the straighteners didnt hot curls for me at all. hope this sorta helps!

i'm not sure what exactly is the BEST for doing curls with a straightener.. but what you wanna look for is a curve edge :) those will make good curls :)
I love my TI Chrome Straightener for doing curls <3

I have myy eyes on CHI Volumizing Flat Iron. Few of myy friend recommended this baby to me awhile back so will definitely give it a try. The claim "volumizing" got me interested since I have a very fine hair. As Charmaine mentioned, you wanna look for a flat iron that has a slight curved edge http://www.folica.com/reviews/tools/flat-irons/chi-volumizing-flat-iron-with-iron-pouch-value-pack

I agree with Charmaine. I can't recommend one particular brand, but I do know you need the curved edges to create the curl. Folica.com has a great selection and sometimes you can find a really great deal at Ulta too.

I agree GHD is the best. Also, with the same result, KQC flat iron is a good alternative. My hair stylist says so too. The prices range from 199.95 to 299.95. They are now on sale though for as low as 90 dollars. You can get one at www.flatironexperts.com

ILoveGerardo put out a tutorial on using a flat iron to make curls. I know she uses GHD flat irons.

The GHD is the best in my opinion. I had been using a CHI for a little while while waiting for a new GHD, mine was stolen :( and it not only dried out my hair but the curl did not hold nearly as long. It is a pricey straightener but so worth the money if you use it to straighten or curl every day or fairly often.
