So I have decided I'm going to start making makeup videos on youtube. But I don't know how I should start off. Does Anybody have any tips or advice on how I can start becomming a guru and get subcribers? Or on what tutorial I should start off with first?

A guru is a person who has extensive knowledge on the subject they're promoting. If you want to be a makeup guru on YT then you're going to need to know your stuff, be creative and have fun with your videos. There are some YT personalities that people consider as gurus but I don't because they're repetitive with their looks or simply don't have the skills. Don't just jump on the bandwagon because everyone wants to be a YT partner and get freebies from companies. Be yourself, have fun but know what you're doing.

I just started making videos on YouTube however I don't consider myself a guru since I'm not a professional. Just have fun and make sure you have a good set-up. People get irritated if your lighting is bad (something I'm still working on). Also just be outgoing and don't take it too seriously. I view it as a hobby. Nothing more :)
Also you don't necessarily have to be a "guru" as the person above me said. Don't be intimidated and feel like you have to be an expert. I started my channel as a way of showing what I know but also to learn from other women as well. It really irritates how snobby some people are when they people down for not being an expert or a professional. It's called the Beauty Community for a reason. We're all here to support one another. Not make each other feel intimidated or scared.
Good luck!

Actually to Katie but I do love your drag series tutorials because they remind me of a friend of mine. He moved across country a very long time ago and we lost touch, but he was/is a killer Reba. I knew he did drag but never saw him in his Reba persona. One day this *gorgeous* woman, who looked like Reba that I had to do a double take, came over to me. Well I was shocked because I thought it was Reba at first but she knew my name! LOL It took her to tell me who she really was before I recognized my friend! LOL
(Don't get me started on the legs and how unfair it is for them to have killer legs in high heels! LOL)
But to Erica, just get a video camera and try to film one tutorial. My best advice on the subject would be to plan what you want to say and do first before filming. Basically make a script. To edit there are various programs including Microsoft's Windows Live Movie Maker.

thanks guyss!!!! i appreciate all of thatt!!!!! yea i dont necisseraly feel like a guru but i just didnt know what else to say lol. i deffinatly am not in it for the perks or anything, i just have a serious passion for makeup and i love the beauty community on youtube and i feel i have alot of knowledge to shareee. im still working on the lighting in my room and everything and the whole setup, and im also getting a new camera so it might take a while, but i have alot of ideas about what i want to make videos on. so maybe i shouldve worded my topic right lol not a guru just a person who wants to share her talent and passion for makeup lol. but thanks for the comments about my picturess :) i appreciate it!! i really appreciate all of the adviceeee!!! :)

Yes I have had a channel for three years but just started posting videos last month. I have been receiving such amazing feedback and its an awesome feeling. Usually I do looks I would enjoy because I wanna share my passion for makeup with others. I like to cater to beginners because there are a lot of ppl from my hometown who follow me on IG and love my work. Plus they're kinda sad I don't live in Chicago anymore because I can't do their makeup. So I started posting them so they could recreate the looks I do on myself. I use a lot of budget friendly products because they make up 90% of my collections and I know people just starting out with makeup probably can't afford higher end products. But I love making videos because it gives me something to do. I too am working on the lighting in my room and found the perfect cost effective solution. Try searching umbrella lights on eBay. I will be ordering some next week. I saw a guru post a video about her set up and when I searched umbrella lights I was amazed at how cheap they could be depending on where you get them.

I've found it easy to start off with a blog first. But that's just me as I'm shy as it is! I'd love to move into videos eventually as well. Someday!
